Mercy and Ike: “I have never been in a relationship where people are so interested in what I do”
Fame, especially the one that comes with being a reality star, can be a gift and a curse. It opens doors, but it also brings scrutiny. Fans feel invested in the star’s life and want to know and have a say in what they do. Our lovely couple Mercy & Ike, are only starting to realise this.
“I have never been in a relationship where people are so interested in what I do,” Mercy tells Ike, sobbing. “I can’t have friends. I can’t keep male friends.”
Has Mercy dumped Ike?
The cause of her headache is a picture she posted during her trip to London. It is a suggestive picture with a male friend, and fans and non-fans want to know: is she cheating on Ike, or has she dumped him?
She continues: “Don’t try to put ideas in my head, [don’t tell me], ‘you can’t do this, you can’t do that,’ No, I haven’t given you that right.”
But she has. The moment Mercy entered the house and begged for our votes, she asked us to be a part of her life. Her relationship with Ike started onscreen. We rooted for them and continue to do so. We feel invested in the relationship.
Ike keeps it cool
Ike, unlike Mercy, acknowledges the realities of their fame. “You know we are only getting bigger,” he says to her, suggesting things could get more amplified. But he is willing to make it work despite the madness that comes with being a famous couple in the Instagram age.
The interesting part of the situation is how their families reacted to it. To find out, catch the latest episode of Mercy & Ike on Showmax on Sunday nights, straight after it airs on Africa Magic Showcase.
