Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland (2017)
This biographical film that traces the final days of the King of Pop feels like it comes from more innocent times. It’s not to be confused with highly controversial doccie Leaving Neverland, which interviewed men who have accused Jackson of sexual abuse.
There are some fascinating revelations in this movie, especially around Jackson’s obsession with keeping his children’s lives private. It also shows his precarious emotional state as he deals with mountains of debt and increasing reliance on drugs to cope.
The movie is based on the book written by two of Jackson’s bodyguards. Jackson is played by well-known impersonator Navi, while Chad L Coleman (The Wire) and Nigerian-American actor Sam Adegoke play the bodyguards, Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard.
