Military Wives (2019)
This movie is based on an actual organisation made up of a network of 75 choirs in British military bases across the UK and abroad, bringing women in the military community closer through singing. Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan star as two of the women who formed the first choir on the home front while their husbands were serving in Afghanistan, and they quickly found themselves at the centre of a global movement that became a media sensation.
Kate (Scott Thomas) and Lisa (Horgan) are from vastly different backgrounds, but, like the other women who join their choir, they find comfort and support in being able to lean on each other during the difficulties and uncertainties of their lives as military wives.
The critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes says, “Like a favourite song you know by heart, Military Wives offers few surprises – but its pleasures are no less formidable for their familiarity.” Entertainment Weekly writes, “Military Wives absolutely succeeds in what it sets out to do – which is, admittedly, not a particularly grand ambition, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a mark worth hitting.”
