Our Girl S3
Women on the frontlines is the focus of this British series that takes a gritty look at what it means to be female in the male-dominated world of combat. In the first season, a working-class teen with few options joined up in the hopes of turning her life around; in the second season, the focus shifted to Lance Corporal Georgie Lane (Michelle Keegan), a tough army medic.
In the third season, Georgie and her fellow soldiers go on missions to Nepal, Nigeria, Belize and Bangladesh – although part of the season was actually filmed in South Africa.
The action isn’t as frantic as something like SEAL Team, but the drama and character development drive it. Our Girl is intense and the message for women want to be soldiers is clear: it’s hard work thanks to rampant sexism. It’s got nothing to do with your abilities – if you’re a woman, you’ll have to work harder.
