Our Perfect Wedding Season 10: Top WOW moments
Sinful kisses, delightful preachers, tragic brides and utter chaos in Our Perfect Wedding Season 10.
Our Perfect Wedding Season 10 is like one of those wedding memory albums filled with snapshots that show how much changed South Africa’s brides during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first 10 episodes took place before the March-April 2020 lockdown. But the episodes that follow show the social distancing, small weddings, face masks, nearly empty churches and thinned-out ceremonies that took place once weddings were back on the menu.
Sadly many of the brides and grooms have grief to share as friends and family members died around them, and mourning overturned many beautiful plans. We’ll also see wedding planners struggling with constantly shifting demands, disrupted supply chains, and everyone’s uncertainty. Yet despite all of this, each episode is also filled with celebration, love, and joy as these couples took the leap even when things seemed bleak.
Now here are just five of the sad, funny, and scandalous moments when the Drama Fairy was a guest at Our Perfect Wedding…
Episode 46 The Best Preacher
A special shout-out to the delightful man who married this couple, because he brought a spirit of perfect joy to Bridget and Maredi’s wedding. After his “parable” about a secretary bird gets crickets from the crowd, he laughs it off and comments, “You can use fancier English than mine. A University Level. A Ph.D. for that matter. I will forever wear this ring as a sign of my commitment,” he sing-songs, “We are having a good time, it is a wedding after all! Super excellent,” he adds cheerfully, making the entire congregation crack up. Delighted bride Bridget comments, “You must know, if you were sleeping, you’re going to wake up. It
was nice. Interesting and unique.” Her husband Maredi agrees. “He made it funny,” he says approvingly. Earlier in the episode we see that Maredi is known as quite the joker in the family, and it’s something they love about him, so this was perfect for the couple.
Episode 8: Till death us do part
Our Perfect Wedding fans were shocked and saddened when they read at the start of this episode that the lovely bride Stella Malebye (nee Mthembu) had since died. Stella and David didn’t get much time at all for their happily ever after. Stella died just a week after their two-day ceremony, and David went directly from honeymoon to mourning. Knowing that we listen even more closely to their vows in this episode.
Episode 48 Chaos!
So many COVID brides and their planners will sympathise with what happened around Nthabiseng and Thabo Seqaqa’s wedding. There were soap opera levels of drama like the groom being taken to jail, but the couple had so many little details go wrong that there was constant stress. The bride was going to be given away by her cousin but the family had to bury him the day before the wedding. One of the groomsmen had to take his mother to the hospital, a car was late picking up the bride, the bride’s decorator Thembisile Mazibuko had to swallow the costs after Nthabiseng postponed the original date, and Nthabiseng also didn’t tell her poor Thembi that she wanted yellow as a key accent colour and they fought over a red carpet. And so much more! Watch poor, stressed planner Thembi sound off about it around 31:12. But then if you’d like to break your own heart, watch the couple in tears as they talk about losing her cousin so suddenly from 34:24. Our Perfect Wedding brings us all sides of the story.
Episode 40: Mother-In-Law says no
It was love at first sight when Dikeledi Moletsane and her husband Lesego Rammekwa (aged 40 now) met at a wedding and their oldest child was 13 years old before they finally married. Their big stumbling block for at least the past three years has been Lesego’s mother, who wanted to keep Lesego for herself, to hear the couple tell it. Not even his family could convince her to accept the bride, which is clearly horribly emotional for them both. Lesego points out that in this kind of situation, unable to make a choice between two such loves, some men are driven to take their own lives, and Dikeledi cries openly. So the couple reached out to Our Perfect Wedding to help, where the groom’s family could not, and the groom’s aunt Nomaze Rammekwa stepped in with great love to bring Dikeledi into her home during lobola negotiations.
Episode 9: That scandalous kiss
Some couples won’t even consider that first kiss in front of the family’s elders, even if they have kids together and those kids are old enough to go to school, so the sexy cat is well and truly out of the bag. Mischievous newlyweds Nonhlanhla Madisa and her new husband Thapelo had no such scruples; in fact, they wanted to make sure that everyone got to enjoy their 12-second smooch. “I wanted the parents to see it, especially the father,” teases Thapelo. “I wanted to have the longest one.” Nonhlanhla can only sigh, “Joh, it was nice. I tried to stop but unfortunately, I couldn’t”
Kiss-kiss! Happy viewing, now go fill in those wedding invitations.
