Siren Season 2: More-maids are coming!
Everyone has sung “under the sea” from The Little Mermaid animated movie but that’s the last place you want to be in fantasy horror series Siren (2018-2020).
Remember meeting Ryn (Eline Powell) in Season 1? She’s a mermaid and a very dangerous one at that. She’s a killer, a predator, nature’s apex water killer who will stop at nothing to protect her own and her human friends – talk about a conflict of interest!
“You have a variety of genres going on, including the magical and the mythical that will satisfy many fantasy fans,” explains Eline. “You have comedy and action and horror for the more hard-core fans. And Season 2 is bigger, better and more dangerous!”
That means more mermaids, more humans being preyed upon and one very big surprise that pops up in Season 2’s first episode.
Man versus Maid
According to nature, mankind hates mermaid-kind and mermaids hate men back. They’re not meant to be in the same place, living in harmony. It’s like a fat seal swimming side-by-side with a great white shark – just not right.
Season 2 is going to delve deeper into the friendship between Ryn and Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola), while also forcing the constant reminder of the man-mermaid war.
“It’s going to explore this very out-of-the-ordinary circle and the circumstances they find themselves in after Season 1,” explains Fola.
Ryn shied away from the pair as Season 1 ended because of how she influenced them as friends and professional marine biologists, opting to protect them from her kin.
Elaine meanwhile is excited about the mythology behind the mermaids and how that will change in the second instalment.
“It’s very interesting [the way mermaid mythology was written out] because you see how deadly they can be – there was a lot of crazy stuff going on in Season 1 and I was interested to see how the writers change that in this season, because it will change,” adds the Belgian actress.
“It’s a very different take on mermaids, even in this season,” adds Alex. “Everything that Ryn has been through, it’s dramatic and sad and emotional and taxing. It’s not a kids’ show and it gets a little gorier this time. There won’t be much laughing, especially from Ryn.”
The more, the mer-rier
Besides the ongoing war and bloodshed with mankind, new mermaids will be arriving in the sleepy coastal town of Bristol Cove. Like Ryn, they will be able to shapeshift and walk on land, but unlike her, the newcomers won’t be in the mood for hot chocolate around a camp fire.
“Humans have overfished their world, so they want revenge,” teasers Alex. “It’s not going to be fun for humans because while Ryn is their [secret] friend, the others simply are not.”
Besides fighting off mermaids disguised as humans and trying to repair her broken relationship with Ben, Maddie has something else on her mind, says Fola: “Her estranged mother returns to town and that becomes a more pressing challenge for her. She doesn’t forget about Ryn and Ben, but she needs to get a handle on her mother first and that’s a difficult challenge.”
Also keep your eyes on mysterious Nicole (Natalee Linez). She slinks into town and bewitches fisherman Xander (Ian Verdun), helping him forget about his dad’s death in Season 1.
But what’s her agenda? Is she even human? Or is she part of the mermaid conspiracy seeping through Bristol Cove, singing a sad song of death as she stalks her prey?
