The River: Lindani and Tumi call it quits, for real this time
There’s begging and then there is everything Lindani was doing after realising that his marriage had ended. At first, we felt sorry for him. Imagine finding out that your wife was cheating on you with a close relative?! That would be enough to break anyone.
Understandably, he was very sad and angry and wanted nothing to do with Tumi. His heart was broken, and he completely fell apart. There was even a point where he would cry non-stop, and we must say, that was very painful to watch. We’re not saying men shouldn’t cry, but Lindani really took it to the next level.
Tumi wants out
After all the weeping, he came to the conclusion that he couldn’t live without his beloved Tumi. Despite no longer wanting to be in the marriage, Tumi felt sorry for Lindani and was even prepared to move back to Refilwe in order to make things work. She agreed to couple’s therapy, but that didn’t end well. Tumi told the therapist that they would no longer need her services.
She then told Lindani that she didn’t mean to hurt him. “My affair with Mabutho was a way for me to deal with the troubles I’d suppressed, the pain I’d suppressed. But it has cost our marriage… I’ve been thinking about us and there’s nothing that can save our marriage,” she said.
Was Lindani ready to hear that? Nope. He was adamant that they still had a chance. Lindani explained that he tried to move on but just couldn’t. The sad truth is that although Tumi loves Lindani, she isn’t in love with him.
“If you look deeply, you’ll realise that you’re not in love with me. You love the idea of the older version of me,” Tumi said.
Farewell, Lindani
We knew Lindani was a hard-headed man but even we weren’t prepared for the foolishness and desperation that followed after his conversation with Tumi. He went straight to Lindiwe and Zweli to ask them to intervene. How desperate can you be? You’ve just been cheated on and dumped but you still don’t get the picture? Viewers couldn’t help but drag Lindani for his actions.
Where do broken hearts go? Well, for Lindani, KwaZulu-Natal seems to be the right place. Before heading out, Lindani got a few things off his chest and told Tumi that he’d always love her.
“All I know is how to be your husband and love you. That’s all I know. That’s the reason I get up every morning. Wherever the world takes you, I’ll follow you everywhere, and I’ll support you in everything you do.”
Healing takes time, right? Let’s hope Lindani will find a way to get through this. Does his exit mean that Mabutho and Tumi will pick up where they left off? Watch the latest episodes of The River now streaming on Showmax
