The River S4: Is Andile a deadbeat father?
A child was probably the last thing on Andile’s Christmas wishlist in The River S4, streaming on Showmax. Just as he was starting to get his life back, the eligible bachelor got the biggest surprise of his life! Andile discovered that he has a child with his ex-fiancé, Faith (well, that’s if she’s telling the truth).
Faith, who’s known for her love of the finer things in life, walked into the Dikana mansion to drop off her son, Enzo. She told her ex that that Enzo is his baby and that she wants Andile to take care of Enzo for a change, while she was getting ready to live her best life.
The River: Don’t trust the schemer
That’s fair, right? If you’re going to make a baby with someone, you must also be prepared to take care of it. But the problem here is that Faith never told Andile she was pregnant, so why must he suddenly step in when he wasn’t aware that he was a father?
“Enzo is Andile’s child,” Faith told Zweli while having dinner with him at a restaurant. “I should have told him as soon as I found out that I was pregnant.” Andile walked in just as Faith was continuing with her story. He got upset and felt betrayed by his father. “So now you’re trying to get my father involved in your dirty scheme. If I hadn’t known better, I wouldn’t have believed it if someone told me my own father would stab me in the back. You and Mom are the same,” he said.
Spiteful behaviour from Faith
In case you have forgotten, Andile and Faith were a high-profile power couple back in the day. Their relationship made a lot of sense when you think about both their families’ status in society. However, Andile’s heart was never really in it. Also, Faith proved to be bad news after getting Mbali, Andile’s late sister, into drugs. So, we don’t blame Andile for reacting the way he did after seeing his father with Faith. He told Zweli: “I almost got married to this woman. I don’t even love her. I was nearly forced to marry her. That failed, and now you’re here trying to ruin my life with this schemer.” He asked Faith why she didn’t tell him about the pregnancy immediately after she found out. “I was doing it to spite you, Andile,” she replied.
Gasp! Andile really is the father
It turns out, Enzo really is Andile’s son. This was confirmed by a DNA test. Zweli broke the news to Andile, who was very shocked. “He is your son. You conceived him, so you ought to take responsibility,” Zweli said.
“Just because we’ve found out he’s my blood, doesn’t mean I suddenly have to be a father. I had no choice in Enzo’s arrival,” he told his father. Will Andile step up and take care of Enzo, or will he proudly wear the ‘deadbeat’ label?
