The River scores International Emmy nomination
The Tshedza Pictures team must be celebrating right now after being shown recognition on an international level. The production company’s hit show, The River, has been nominated for an International Emmy Award in the Best Telenovela category.
The nominees were announced this week and the show is up against telenovelas from other countries including Portugal and Brazil. Reacting to the big news on Thursday, the show’s co-creator Phathu Makwarela simply posted crying emojis on Twitter. Phathu’s timeline was flooded with congratulatory messages from fans and industry peers.
In a statement, M-Net CEO, Nkateko Mabaso said: “1Magic would like to thank everyone involved in the success of the show.”
The River has been on screen for almost two years and has become one of Mzansi’s most loved TV shows. At this year’s South African Film and Television Awards (SATFAs), it walked away with several awards including Best Telenovela.
We’re not surprised that the show has received this nod because it stars some of the country’s biggest actors, including Sindi Dlathu (Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikana), Hlomla Dandala (Zweli Dikana) and Presley Chweneyagae (Cobra). We’re confident the team will bring this one home!
The 2019 International Emmy Awards will take place on 25 November 2019 in New York. We’re all waiting for the big day to come! In the meantime, you can catch up on this hit telenovela right here on Showmax. New episodes air 15 minutes after the DStv broadcast.
