The System
The System is a Kenyan political drama that revolves around the lives of the political elites, and the lengths they are willing to go to control power. A young democracy, the republic is riddled with corruption, intense political rivalries and imminent chaos. Looking to put the country in order and leave a lasting legacy, the ailing president (played by Chris Kamau, Sumu la Penzi) commissions a report on historical injustices and human rights violations that could implicate some of the country’s most powerful and dangerous.
In all this madness, only one man – the incorruptible Teiye can save the country. Teiye is played by veteran actor and screen legend Raymond Ofula (Queen Sono, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, Monica). And while he’s one of the few honourable politicians in the Republic, Teiye is too busy with his political ambitions and fighting for justice to take care of his scandal-prone family – his alcoholic wife Cathy (Mumbi Kaigwa, The First Grader) and his rebellious junky son Alusa (Elsaphan Njora, Kati Kati).
Created and directed by Jesse Kyalo (Wavamizi), The System also features an elite cast of some of Kenya’s best including Joseph Omari (Makutano Junction, Supa Modo) as the scheming, ambitious Tobias, Ken Ambani (Kovu, From a Whisper), Maryanne Nungo (Supa Modo), Brian Ogola (18 Hours), Ian Mbugua (Changes, House of Lungula) and Joe Kinyua (Njoro wa Uba).
