The top scoring Africans in the Premier League

This Sunday will see two of the leading African Premier League scorers go head-to-head when Liverpool take on Brentford (live on Showmax Pro Mobile, courtesy of SuperSport).

Here’s a look at all of the Africans that have been in form in front of goal so far this season.

Mohamed Salah – 8 goals

The “Egyptian King” is Africa’s most prolific Premier League scorer of all time and he looks as clinical as ever this season.

After five goals from his last four games, he’s now three goals away from scoring 150 in the Premier League. He’s also only three goals away from Erling Haaland’s total this season, so don’t rule him out of the Golden Boot race just yet.

There have been many new faces brought into the Liverpool attack recently, but the one constant is that Salah is still the go-to guy for goals.

Bryan Mbeumo – 6 goals

As a player that’s consistently starring in a Brentford team that’s impressive every week, surely some bigger clubs must consider trying to sign the Cameroonian.

His left foot is causing problems for all defences. He’s a composed finisher with a great first touch. He’s hard-working on the field and strong at taking set-pieces. At the age of 24, his best is probably still to come. What’s not to like?

An impressive showing at Anfield might just show that although he’s happy and doing well at the Bees, he could be a player that could ply his trade higher than mid-table.

Nicolas Jackson – 5 goals

After looking promising in many of his early games for Chelsea, fans have been waiting for that one performance that could kickstart a lot of goals. His hat-trick against Tottenham could end up being that boost he needs.

Up until that game against Spurs, Jackson was getting many chances to score but hasn’t been as clinical as one would hope. Confidence can often help strikers find their scoring touch and if he manages to get on the scoresheet against Manchester City this weekend, expect the Senegalese star to get more prolific as the season goes on.

Taiwo Awoniyi – 3 goals

The Nigerian striker was Nottingham Forest’s saviour at the end of last season with his goals that lifted the club out of its relegation battle, and he started this campaign in the same way by scoring in each of the first three games.

After being sidelined through injury, Awoniyi started his first game in a month last week as Forest got back to winning ways against Aston Villa.

His size and strength will always pose a threat to Premier League defences. He could give West Ham quite a few headaches this Sunday.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 3 goals

The Mali midfielder has recently been playing in a more advanced position up the pitch and has become instrumental in Sean Dyche’s mini-revival at Everton.

He’s been effective as a more direct option in attack for the Toffees and with only one loss in their last four games, he might help change the club’s status from relegation candidates to a mid-table finish.

This weekend he’ll come up against a physical Crystal Palace team, where his strength and physicality could hold the key to Everton’s chances.

Lyle Foster – 3 goals

There were doubts as to whether the South African would be a regular in Vincent Kompany’s Burnley side this season, but now he basically seems undroppable.

He’s also got two assists to his name and has been involved in more than half of Burnley’s goals this season.

Foster has missed the last couple of games due to illness and will probably only be back in action after the international break. His return can’t come quick enough for the Clarets, who are looking to get out of the bottom three.

Yoane Wissa – 3 goals

Many people assumed that Ivan Toney would be impossible for Brentford to replace, but Yoane Wissa has taken the opportunity to lead the line and his combination with Bryan Mbeumo has ensured that goalscoring has not become a problem for the Bees.

Brentford haven’t lost in any game that the DR Congo international has scored in. His work rate off the ball has also become invaluable in terms of creating opportunities for others.

Wissa scored in two of his last three appearances against Liverpool and will be looking for his first goal at Anfield this Sunday.
