Showmax Pro to be phased out in 2023: FAQs
With the upcoming relaunch of Showmax, our sport offering will focus exclusively on the Premier League, the most popular football league on the continent, and Showmax Pro in its current form will be phased out by 30 November 2023, while Showmax Pro Mobile will continue to be available. More details around the refreshed pricing and the product will be shared soon.
Existing Showmax Pro subscribers in select markets will be able to stream even more live sport from SuperSport, a wide variety of live channels and more with an exclusive DStv Stream and Showmax bundle deal.
Why is Showmax Pro no longer available? Why are other sports no longer available?
With Showmax relaunching, we’re shaking things up. Part of the change is phasing out Showmax Pro in its current format, while keeping Showmax Pro Mobile available until the Showmax relaunch.
But we want to make sure that our Showmax Pro customers are still able to access the sport they love. As part of this product change, existing Showmax Pro customers in South Africa will be offered a DStv Compact Plus Stream package at the same price as Showmax Pro. This gives customers access to even more live sport from SuperSport including the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, UEFA Champions League, and additional sport like the NBA, NFL and UFC, as well as selected Rugby World Cup 2023 games via the DStv Stream app. Customers will be able to stream 115+ live channels, access the full catalogue of DStv video-on-demand library and continue to have full access to Showmax’s entertainment catalogue.
In certain countries in the rest of sub-Saharan Africa, existing Showmax Pro subscribers will be offered one month of DStv Stream for free, and for the following two months will get the DStv Stream package at the same price as Showmax Pro*, which will also give access to even more live sport from SuperSport including the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, the UEFA Champions League and additional sport like the NBA, NFL and UFC via the DStv Stream app. This includes live-streaming of a variety of live channels, access to the full catalogue of DStv video-on-demand library, as well as full access to Showmax’s entertainment catalogue.
*Note: The Showmax and DStv Stream offer will be available in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Uganda. The offer can be taken up by existing Showmax Pro subscribers between 18 October 2023 and 10 November 2023. Eligible customers will get an SMS or email with more details on how to activate the offer.
Still want to enjoy Showmax, even if you're not eligible for this offer? Check out all the other products available here.
When will Showmax Pro be phased out completely?
From 1 October 2023, Showmax Pro will no longer be available for subscription. If you have an auto-renewal subscription, you won't be charged after 30 October 2023 and you can continue to view until the last day of your subscription.
Showmax Pro Mobile will continue to be available until the Showmax relaunch.
Why does the deal/pricing differ outside SA? Why does SA get Compact Plus and other markets don’t?
There are variations on what’s available in each country, based on the content line-up, local conditions, and currency fluctuation. As an example, Showmax Pro in South Africa included Champions League football while this wasn’t included in other regions due to licensing agreements. The DStv Compact Plus available to subscribers in South Africa is on par with what Showmax Pro customers had access to in this region, and includes events such as the Champions League.
Where do Showmax Pro customers find out more about the deal?
This deal is exclusively available to existing Showmax Pro customers, who will receive emails from Showmax and DStv with more information about the deal. This offer isn’t available to Showmax Pro Mobile customers, but other mobile offers will become available in future.
