Uncle Rod shakes things up on Gomora
Gomora just doesn’t stop with the twists and turns. And now, we’ve been introduced to a new face: Uncle Rodney. And he is not to be trusted.
Rodney “Uncle Rod” Sibeko is described as a favourite with Thathi’s children. He’s the uncle who can do no wrong, the uncle who showed up for school activities when their father, Mbongeni, couldn’t be bothered.
But don’t be fooled: the man is cunning, cut-throat and the epitome of entitlement. He wants what he wants, when he wants it. He may have had his fingers in some of Mbongeni’s corrupt pies, but there’s no proof that points to him – at least, not yet.
Another starring role
Dodgy Uncle Rod is played by veteran actor Vusi Kunene. Vusi (54) is no stranger to the SA TV industry, and he’s been a familiar face since the early 90s. He has also appeared in various international films such as Cry, the Beloved Country, A United Kingdom and more.
However, it was his role on SABC soapie Generations: The Legacy that really cemented his fame. That was followed by another iconic role, this time on SAFTA-winning telenovela Isibaya from 2012 to 2016.
He’s taken a bit of a hiatus, but we’re thrilled to see him back on our screens. And we aren’t alone: after his debut in Gomora, viewers took to social media to express their delight.
In his first scene, Uncle Rodney is seen making Thathi an offer she can’t refuse. However, viewers weren’t fooled by his supposed generosity.
