WATCH: Moonchild Sanelly’s Grassroots story
Moonchild Sanelly certainly knows what it’s like to work hard for what you want. Although she’s been in the music industry for more than 12 years, it was only in 2017 that she began to reap the rewards of her success. Now, having achieved some major goals, including working with Beyoncé, she reflects on her own grassroots story.
In this exclusive interview, Moonchild recalls sacrificing a relationship and leaving her children to pursue a career in music.
However, these were not sacrifices done in vain as she believes working towards her dreams is the exact reason why her children are currently living a better life than she had while growing up.
“If I die today, my kids need to know that their entire existence was paid for through my dreams, and therefore if I am not here and someone says dreams are not possible. They can be like […] we live through our mom’s dreams.”
More on Grassroots
Grassroots is a co-production between Showmax and 1Magic. In this coming-of-age drama, two boys are forced to overcome a family feud and work together when they’re sent from their rural town in the Eastern Cape to a posh private school in Johannesburg.
Rugby is the ticket to a new life for Asanda and Monwabisi, who’ve both earned scholarships to St Sebastian’s. As they adjust to life in the tough school, they realise they’ll have to put their historic differences aside if they’re going to survive.
