Mpho Popps is Roast Master for the Roast of Khanyi Mbau
The Comedy Central Roast is back with a bang! Comedian, presenter, television personality and all-round entertainer Mpho Modikoane, aka Mpho Popps, will be tasked with keeping things explosive as the Roast Master for the The Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau, brought to you by Showmax. Comedy Central Africa’s much anticipated Roast will air during the month of August on both Comedy Central Africa’s DStv Channel 122 and Showmax.
The electrifying combination of Mpho Popps and Khanyi Mbau will ensure that there is never a dull moment. They’ve appeared on screen together and even then there was no shortage of witty exchanges between the two. Mpho Popps is known for his stinging wit and the queen of controversy, Khanyi Mbau, is known for her razor-sharp tongue – all the ingredients that make for an epic and entertaining Roast.
Mpho Popps said, “This is just one of those career milestones that I couldn’t have imagined happening. Khanyi Mbau is a legend and an entertainment icon. For me to be the chosen one to throw her onto the flames to be roasted is not only historical but legendary as well. As the Roast Master I say, ‘May the thickest skin win’!”
“Mpho Popps is no stranger to our channel. He was first introduced to our audiences on Comedy Central Live @ Parkers and we, as Comedy Central Africa, have enjoyed collaborating with him on various other projects. He did the opening set for the Roast of Somizi and had a very amazing performance. So being the Roast Master is a natural fit – a bit like the chemistry between him and Khanyi that is guaranteed to be electrifying,” said Dillon Khan, Vice President of Comedy Central Africa.
Candice Fangueiro, Showmax’s head of content, concluded, “We’re huge fans of Mpho Popps from Strictly Come Dancing and his work on classics on Showmax like Ayeye, Thina Sobalili and the Roast of Somizi, so we can’t wait to watch him dance circles around anyone who steps out of line.”
The Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau Brought To You by Showmax on Comedy Central and Showmax on 8 August – with the uncensored, uncut version on Showmax from 15 August – will be hilarious, thought-provoking and without reservations. All gloves are off as we take Khanyi and our panel straight from the frying pan and into the fire.
