Words of wisdom from Kate Liquorish – for her younger self.
June is the month when South Africa celebrates Youth Day and all the incredible potential that young people everywhere embody.
But everyone needs a little advice every now and then – especially from an award-winning actress like Kate Liquorish. Fresh her SAFTA win for Best Actress for Still Breathing, we asked Kate what advice she’d give her younger self if she had the benefit of time travel.
Kate’s words of wisdom

- Be brave, jump in – nothing worthwhile ever came easy.
- Trust in your potential, believe in yourself – if you don’t, no one else will.
- Surround yourself with good people, you can tell so much about a person by the company they keep.
- Turn the music up, dance more, lose control, make mistakes. Don’t be afraid of failure, failure is how we learn.
- Stop worrying so much about being liked, just be yourself.
- Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
- Tell the people you love that you love them everyday.
- Find a partner who gives and loves as much as you do.
- Be kind. Learn patience.
- Don’t be so hard on yourself all the time – remember to breathe – a day off once in a while never hurt anyone.
- Travel often.
- Educate yourself: you have a beautiful mind, use it.
- Keep at it, even when it seems impossible, even when every bone in your body says ‘give up’, keep at it. You will make it.
