Nonku’s wine launch turns sour: The Real Housewives of Durban
Since episode 1, Nonku has been excited about launching her first-ever wine brand titled A to B (Ashes to Beauty).

The Durban-based businesswoman decided to host the launch at her home in Hillcrest with the help of events planner Kgomotso Ndungane.
As expected, she also invited the other ladies, including the latest addition to the group, LaConco.

A bartender who knows zilch about wine
When hiring someone to sell your product, you’d expect them to be well versed about it, right?
Well, not in this case. For the event, Nonku hired a sommelier to present the wine to her guests. Unfortunately, the sommelier was nowhere to be found.
In an act to save the day, one of the bartenders working at the event offered to help present the wines. Little did Nonku know that the bartender didn’t know a thing about wine.

A disastrous presentation
The bartender butchered the task. He first mixed up the white and red wine and then delivered a horrible description of what the wine should taste like.
“It’s white wine and it gives you that hint of green pepper, with kiwi and asparagus..”
He didn’t do any better with the red wine, saying, “Our Merlot is made out of cherries and berries and you can eat it with raw meat.”
Raw meat? Surely he meant you can have the wine with a piece of rare or medium-rare steak?
The guy continued to stumble over his words while a visibly irritated audience watched him in disbelief.
An embarrassed Nonku
Nonku was at a loss for words and just wanted the evening to end already.
“I should’ve just been honest with my guests, but I was trying to rectify the situation. But, you know what? It’s okay, I made a mistake,” she said.

Kgomotso was not impressed at all. She didn’t even want to taste any of the wine. Her irritation stemmed from her professional nature as an events planner, so she really took it seriously.
We hope to see Nonku hosting another wine launch with far fewer hiccups.
