The Wife: Hlomu loses her virginity and the Zulu brothers start a war
If there’s one thing that the Zulu brothers have proved in this Showmax Original telenovela it’s that they stick together through thick and thin. When Nkosana finds himself in the deep end, his brother Mqhele rescues him. And even when Mqhele tries to win Hlomu’s heart, his brothers are there to support him. Here’s what to expect in episodes 4-6 of The Wife.

An unbreakable bond
When the Zulu brothers land in trouble, it’s their eldest brother Nkosana who rushes to clean up their mess. It’s no different after his troublemaker sibling Nqoba convinces their younger and naïve brothers to confront their rivals, the Majola family, in episode 3. What was meant to be an innocent face-off between the men turns into a shootout at the taxi rank, resulting in the death of one of Majola’s sons.
How it works in the taxi community is that if you kill someone, you’re forced to sacrifice your life. As Bab’ Majola explains it: “It’s an eye for an eye”. So, Nkosana leaves Mqhele a voice message, informing his younger brother that he is about to give up his life to Bab’Majola because of the death of his son.
However, Bab’Majola flips the script. He has no interest in killing Nkosana but demands that he offers one of his seven brothers to be killed instead, an act Nkosana refuses to commit. Seeing that Bab’Majola won’t budge, Nkosana is left with no other option than to kill him.
By the time Mqhele listens to the voice message, he knows that Nkosana is in hot water. Mqhele rushes to the Majola home and finds Nkosana distraught. He has just killed Bab’Majola – the notorious taxi boss and chairperson of the taxi association. The Zulu brothers leave Bab’Majola on the floor and flee the scene. Now they must plan their next move as things are about to get even messier.
It’s war in The Wife and the Zulu brothers devise a game plan
There is tension in the Zulu home and the brothers fear that it’s only a matter of time until the Majola family figure out that Nkosana is behind Bab’Majola’s death. The Zulu brothers put their heads together and figure out a way out of their dilemma. While Qhawe suggests that they pack their belongings and go into hiding, Nkosana demands that they remain in Johannesburg and face their problems head-on. After all, they are the Zulus, and the Zulus don’t run away from their problems.
With his brothers scratching their heads, Sambulo leaves the house to clear his head only for him to kill more of the Majola family members and their allies with a sniper. With more dead bodies, the Zulu brothers realize that they have targets on their backs. So, when the association proposes that Nkosana becomes the new chairperson, he refuses as he wants to deflect attention from killing Bab’Majola. Rather, Nkosana puts his old pal Dlakadla’s name forward. In that way, Nkosana will pull Dlakadla’s strings, and he’ll still have influence over the taxi board without all the attention.
If the Zulu brothers think that they are going to get away with Bab’Majola’s death that easily, they’d better think again! The battle lines are drawn and the Majola siblings Goja and Gwaza are out to avenge their father and brother’s deaths.
Hlomu, a gone girl
It only takes one kiss between Hlomu and Mqhele for her to fall utterly in love with him. She is so smitten with him that she is willing to dump her doctor boyfriend, Sandile, right away. But Sandile doesn’t make it easy for Hlomu, and he fights for their relationship.
Recently, Hlomu has been feeling neglected in her relationship with Sandile as he’d rather be at work than spend quality time with his fiancée.
She tries to call Mqhele and check up on him following their passionate kiss but since he is going through his own drama with the Majola family, his phone is off. She leaves Mqhele an unruly voice message and goes about her day.
Soon after, Hlomu is sent on an assignment to cover a service delivery story at an informal settlement, and she’s attacked. The thugs knock her over and they slice her hand. When she wakes up, she’s in the hospital but the injuries aren’t that serious. She’s given a couple of painkillers and sent on her way home. Considering that Sandile works at the hospital that Hlomu checked in, she asks him to drive her home but again, he is too preoccupied with work. Annoyed, she leaves the hospital alone and she is met with a surprise: Mqhele and his brothers are at the reception, ready to take her home.
Home is where Hlomu’s heart is
When Mqhele says he is taking Hlomu “home” he is actually referring to his house and it doesn’t take Hlomu much time to settle in. She spends the night at Mqhele’s house and in the morning, they land in bed together. When Hlomu wakes up, she finds Mqhele staring at her and they’re excited to start their lives together.
With that said, Mqhele and his brothers arrive at Hlomu’s apartment, and they kick Sandile out. When Hlomu arrives home, she finds Mqhele on the couch, waiting for her so that they can date without any disturbances.
But with the Majolas out to get the Zulu brothers, Hlomu is unknowingly in over her head by dating Mqhele.
