After Mqhele beats his girlfriend, Hlomu, she packs her bags and travels to her home in Durban to process the incident. Part of her is trying to avoid facing the truth of the matter, and of course, she’s in both physical and emotional pain. How could the man who vowed to love, care and protect her hurt her in the worst possible manner?

As for the Majola brothers, they are burning with anger and they return to Johannesburg to avenge their father and brother’s death.

These were some emotionally charged episodes of The Wife, showing exclusively on Showmax. Here’s what when down.

Hlomu’s hard road to healing

Langa and Hlomu are headed home

When episode 10 opens, Hlomu is on the floor, with tears streaming after Mqhele beat her and left her alone in her apartment. She’s still confused, emotionally drained and shocked. So, when her twin brother, Langa, returns from a night of partying, Hlomu doesn’t want to talk about what happened. All she wants is to go home to Durban to clear her head.

Being the supportive twin that he is, Langa helps Hlomu pack, and they drive to their parents’ house in KwaMashu. The Dladlas are completely shocked when the twins arrive in the odd hours of the night, unannounced. However, the real blow is when Bab’Dladla and Mam’Dladla see the state that Hlomu is in: their daughter is completely broken.

After some probing at breakfast the next morning, Hlomu finally tells them that her new boyfriend, Mqhele, beat her. The Dladlas are livid, and they demand that Hlomu permanently move back home to avoid ever seeing Mqhele again. There’s a twist though: Mqhele has followed Hlomu to Durban.

Mqhele gets a taste of his medicine

Having realised his mistake, Mqhele races to Hlomu’s apartment to apologise. When he arrives, however, she’s gone and even her closet is empty. He travels to her office only to find that she has missed work. Mqhele’s mind starts racing. Has he lost Hlomu for good? He’s so terrified of that idea that he goes on a drinking spree. When he wakes up the next morning, he decides to take a trip to Durban to fight for Hlomu’s heart.

Mqhele is beaten to a pulp by Hlomu’s dad

Bab’Dladla takes a walk outside and spots a red GTI parked outside his home – and when he discovers that the man in the car is Mqhele, the same Mqhele who beat his baby girl, all hell breaks loose. Bab’Dladla beats Mqhele to a pulp. The brawl, however, doesn’t stop Hlomu from making amends with Mqhele. Despite the warnings from her family and all the red flags, she forgives Mqhele and drives off with him. After all, Mqhele is her man, and she is going to stick beside him. Viewers had plenty of things to say about Hlomu’s decision:

The three Zulu troublemakers

Mpande, Mqoqi and Ntsika are arrested

The younger Zulu brothers, Mpande, Mqoqi, and Ntsika, are going to give Nkosana grey hairs with their antics because trouble is their middle name. They can’t stay away from trouble and they are arrested for driving away when the police pull them over. But that’s the least of their worries as after they are released, Mpande is arrested again as his fingerprints match those found on a number plate that was uncovered at a recent cash-in-transit heist. Nkosana talks to his cop friend to clear the charges and Mpande is set free.

Back with a vengeance

Surprise, Mbuba wives! Geza and Gwaza Majola are back, and they want their rivals, the Zulu brothers, to pay for killing their father and brother. The Majolas leave no stone unturned in their grand master plan: they start off by blackmailing the Zulus’ ally Dlakadla to help them destroy the Zulus. How? Well, they discover that Dlakadla instigated the Zulu brothers’ parents’ death. So, Dlakadla will do all their dirty work or else they’ll expose his secret.

Dlakadla is caught between the Zulu brothers and the Majola brothers

The Majola don’t waste time in putting their scheme into action and they stalk and place trackers on all the Zulu taxis to keep tabs on them. This works to their advantage as they find out that the Zulus are planning a heist. In a turn of events, the Majolas hijack the heist and a shootout of note occurs. Bullets are flying, blood is shed, and Mqoqi is shot. The Zulus flee the scene to get Mqoqi medical assistance. Will he survive or not? That’s the big question.

The Wife streams exclusively on Showmax. Season 3 landing on 10 November 2022.
