Unmarried Season 3, episode 9: The bitter truth
Dear Unmarried enthusiasts, we can’t be the only ones who watched the last episode with mixed feelings. On one hand, there were times we were so excited for our favourite on-screen trio and at other times, we just wanted to scream at them.
If you haven’t been following the series so far, you can catch all episodes here because honestly, you don’t want to be left out. Like we always say, wahala for who no dey watch Unmarried.
Let’s get into all that happened on the show yesterday.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Kamsi’s dilemma
If you recall, in last week’s episode, Lotanna gave into Kamsi’s demand for a divorce and even though it was what she wanted, she was quite forlorn about this development.
This week, Kamsi seems to have changed her mind about getting a divorce as she engages Lota in an honest conversation about making an effort to salvage what’s left of their marriage. Lota suggests that they take a break, some time off from each other to figure out if they are better together or apart. Kamsi offers to move in with Nengi, seeing as Lotanna cannot afford to get another apartment.
At Nengi’s, Kamsi confides in anybody who cares to listen about her rocky marriage. She tells Nengi she is saddened by the possibility of leaving Lota, and worried about the effect it would have on their children. She also expresses her frustration to Bosa the love doctor, who encourages her to check on Lotanna and not deprive herself of any love.
Concerned that he isn’t taking her calls, Kamsi decides to go and check on Lota and finds him in bed with another woman. Barely 24 hours into their “break”, Lotanna is already warming his bed with random women.
Hopefully, this is all the clarity Kamsi needs to finally let go of Lotanna.
Funbi finds out the truth about her mother
Funbi has been on to her mother for a while now. Remember how she approached Ali with the suspicion of her mother’s lies, but he convinced her that her concerns were unfounded?
She once again brings up the issue of her mother’s wellbeing with Ali, hinting that her mother may be a tad too healthy for someone with Stage Four breast cancer. She further stated that she did not trust her mother due to her infamous past but, trust the master manipulator Ali to once again allay her fears.
However, Funbi is not buying it and decides to take the bull by the horns. She asks Iya Funbi outright if she’s lying about her ailment. This doesn’t go down well with her mother, who releases the waterworks and accuses Funbi of calling her a liar. Ali takes Funbi’s interrogation of her mother as a show of defiance and proceeds to teach her a lesson.
The gaslighting going on in that house could literally burn it down. Ali and Iya Funbi have consistently gaslighted Funbi to the point where even the viewers have started to doubt what’s real.
Funbi, however, remains unfazed and continues to observe her mother closely. Though she’s not sure what her mother is hiding, she is certain that something is amiss.
In an interesting turn of events, the truth walks up to her front door in the form of her mother’s doctor. He confesses that Iya Funbi does not have cancer and has been lying the whole time. Wahala!
Bode’s wife attacks Nengi
Following the introduction to Bode’s children, which ended in disaster, Nengi and Bode decide to take baby steps as regards his children.
Nengi confides in Kamsi and Bosa that she is disappointed with the outcome of their first meeting and concerned that the children view her as the reason for their parent’s separation. They both encourage her to be patient with the kids as their parents’ separation must be difficult for them as well.
Kamsi notices the chemistry between Bosa and Nengi while they flirt with each other and you should have seen her face when Bosa said “if it doesn’t work out with Bode, I’ll just marry you”. We stan a focused king!
Bode arrives shortly after and is not particularly pleased to see Bosa. One could have cut the tension in that scene with a knife. Perceptive Bosa takes that as his cue to leave and Kamsi offers to see him off.
They continue their conversation from where they left off, with Bosa the love doctor encouraging Kamsi to go after the love she deserves. He also confides in Kamsi that he has always had a thing for Nengi but has since accepted to be just friends. Kamsi advises him not to give up on Nengi but to fight for what he wants.
Meanwhile, Bode is throwing a tantrum because he is jealous of Bosa. He tries to convince Nengi to stop entertaining Bosa at her house, stating that he is trying to get into her pants. Nengi reassures him that they are just friends, but Bode is not having any of it. He eventually apologises to Nengi for letting his jealousy get the best of him.
In a plot twist that nobody could have anticipated, Bode’s wife, Bibi, accosts Nengi on her way to work and attacks her with pepper spray while warning her to steer clear of her children.
Will this be the end of Bode and Nengi? How will Funbi handle the truth? Will Kamsi finally find the strength to leave Lota? Will Bosa finally take this as his chance to pursue Nengi?
