Uthando Lodumo Season 2: Babes and Mampintsha’s families at loggerheads
Thanks to social media, everybody knows that Babes Wodumo doesn’t get on with Mampintsha’s mother. The mother- and daughter-in-law had a very public spat, swearing at each other through videos that were shared on public platforms. In the premiere of the second season of Showmax Original series Uthando Lodumo, Babes and Mampintsha had a chance to address the issue.
Their intention was to resolve the drama so that both families could move on peacefully. A while back, a video of Mampintsha’s mother, Zamanguni, swearing at Babes surfaced on the internet. In the video, she claimed that Babes was lying about her pregnancy, and asked God to protect her son from marrying into an evil family. Zamanguni also insulted Babes’ father.
It’s complicated
Babes retaliated by sharing her own video, and swore at Zamanguni. “I will beat you up,” she said. She also accused her of abandoning her son after three days. This created a lot of conflict between the two families and now it’s time to make peace. Mampintsha assured Babes that he would fix things.
“My mother has never met my son. That doesn’t sit well with me. We’ve had our differences and there are so many stories out there but eventually, we have to come together, have a conversation and unite our families,” the singer said on the show. Babes said she wasn’t born into a complicated family. “I’m not familiar with all of this. What do they want me to do?”

Mampintsha eventually met up with his mother and sister, Pinky, to understand how they feel about what happened. Zamanguni explained: “I was really annoyed. I felt disrespected. You’re my only son and I’m your mother, I deserve to be respected.” She added that the drama started at the couple’s wedding and things haven’t been okay since.
“Babes got married while she was pregnant. So, in a case like that, where you haven’t gotten married yet, you need to go to your in-laws to inform them.” She said they were meant to be told about the baby. “The reason we called him ‘sponge’ was because we were not sure if she was really pregnant,” she added.
Who will apologise first?
Zamanguni concluded that Babes would need to apologise to her and pay damages. “I am not her friend; I am her mother-in-law. It would have been better if she had sworn at me over the phone instead of social media.”
Meanwhile, Babes’ father wants Zamanguni to apologise to him. Bishop Welcome Simelane said during their own family meeting: “I was disappointed when I received calls from people telling me about a woman was swearing at me on social media. Not only me, but my entire family.” He said that hurt his reputation and tarnished his image.
“My dad is basically asking for damages to be paid to him to clear our family name,” Babes said.
