Viewers react to The Real Housewives of Durban’s explosive start
The first episode of The Real Housewives of Durban, introduced Mzansi to some of eThekwini’s most glamorous women. The introduction was all about getting to know the housewives while showcasing their successful businesses, lavish homes and sleek cars.
But that’s not all. It turns out that Durban is also very big on shade. We were expecting a lot of drama, but nothing prepared us for the bomb that was dropped so early in the season.

Sorisha the Queen B
From the get-go, Sorisha has been a favourite among viewers. It all started after she reached out to Kgomotso, who owns an events and floral business called Oak Celebrations, to help her with an Eastern-themed party in celebration of Diwali.
Viewers were pleasantly surprised at how humble Sorisha is. Her kind-hearted aura and non-confrontational personality scored her great favour.
But it was also how she managed to connect the housewives through the party that made people admire her more.
The big night finally arrived, and the guests looked absolutely amazing in their Eastern-inspired looks. But it was Ayanda’s outfit that caught everyone’s attention. When it came to Nonku, however, it wasn’t only Ayanda’s clothing that made her stand out.
Dealing with loss
Upon Ayanda’s arrival at Sorisha’s home, we sensed a bit of awkwardness. From the moment Ayanda sat down, you could tell that Nonku had a lot to say.
The evening went on as planned. The ladies got to know each other over dinner and had some great conversations. They ended up talking about Ayanda’s late husband, award-winning gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane.
“Your husband was gifted; he was a blessing… Not just to you and your family but to the nation,” Thobekile told Ayanda.
The ladies complimented Ayanda on her strength and asked how she managed to overcome losing Sfiso.
“It’s different when someone is your lover, your best friend, your business partner. At the beginning you are literally sure that you are going to crash.” She also spoke about her children’s healing process.
“Kids don’t need God when they lose one parent, they need their mom. I had a responsibility because had I crashed, it was going to affect them even more,” she said. She also shared how she dealt with the negative comments from the media.
An explosive ending
While Ayanda was pouring her heart out, Nonku asked a few questions and seemed very interested in hearing her story. However, this was followed by an unexpected bomb.
Just as we were trying to figure out the hostility between Nonku and Ayanda, Nonku went for the jugular and revealed some shocking news.
Nonku, with no warning, revealed to Ayanda who she really is, and how they happen to be connected.
