5 life lessons from The Real Housewives of Durban

1. Forgiveness goes a long way

Nonku and Ayanda’s relationship hasn’t always been a smooth one. This was caused by the fact that they both have children with late gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane. Ayanda was married to the star, while Nonku had a brief relationship with him.

When the ladies’ paths crossed on the show, they saw it as an opportunity to make things right. Ayanda and Nonku had a tough heart-to-heart and decided to start on a clean slate for the sake of their children. It was heartwarming to see them ironing out their differences and choosing to let go of the past.

2. Women can do it for themselves

Throughout the season, the ladies have inspired viewers with just how independent they are. While they have families to take care of, these “housewives” run successful empires in different industries.

What’s also amazing is that they’re also all about empowering other women in the process. We saw this when LaConco hosted an event aimed at sharing wisdom with younger ladies and showing them that it is possible to forge your own path.

3. Always stand up for yourself

One lesson that we’ll forever cherish is the importance of speaking up for yourself. Mabusi, who felt like an outsider in the group, has had her fair share of uncomfortable moments on the show. No matter where the ladies were, there were always some unnecessary remarks about her.

She finally showed that she’s no pushover and confronted the people who had less-than-nice things to say about her. Another important thing is that Mabusi values herself enough to put boundaries in place, showing that she will not tolerate any disrespect.

4. You don’t need to entertain everything

When Nonku was hosting the ladies in Cape Town, she had a few unpleasant surprises. Her emotions got the better of her and she decided to take some timeout and gather her thoughts. This meant leaving her guests at the dinner table and led to the ladies discussing her poor hosting skills.

When Nonku came back, Kgomotso told her that what Ayanda had said about her being a “pretend host”. Instead of defending herself, Nonku didn’t pay much attention to the whole thing and chose to focus on more important things.

5. Relax and have fun

It’s a busy world and everybody is trying to keep up. Yes, the ladies have hectic schedules, but they also understand that there needs to be a good balance between work and play. They made sure that time was always set aside for some good old fun.

This season, we saw them going for fancy dinners, laughing their lungs out during games night and also enjoying pamper sessions. If you’re wondering what the soft life looks like, look no further!
