5 reasons to stream the Zambian telenovela Mpali on Showmax
Trust is usually put to the test in relationships, but more so when a man is in a polygamous marriage, as we see in Zambezi Magic’s enthralling telenovela, Mpali Seasons 1-5, is now streaming on Showmax.
Mpali is a story that revolves around a rich polygamist named Nguzu (played by Mutale Monde) who has six wives. His home appears to be peaceful until he marries another woman named Tamara, his sixth and youngest wife. Nguzu’s wives are taken by surprise when Zungu introduces them to Tamara, and all hell starts to break loose.
Here are 5 reasons you can’t miss the massively popular series from Zambezi Magic:
1. Zungu is one of the most stressed men in the history of marriages
Things don’t get any easier for Zungu considering that he has six wives constantly plotting something behind his back. We take a look at each wife and their reasons for Zungu’s stress.
Mai Guru (Wanga Zulu) is the first wife and acts like the mother figure to her husband’s other five wives. The second wife, Mwiza (Anita Munamonga), is hiding a secret that makes Zungu lose trust in her. The third wife is Monde (Jemimah Phiri), who is Caiphas’s mother. She is carrying on a secret relationship with one of Zungu’s older sons. The fourth wife is Tombi (Lissy Yambayamba), who’s a bully and all the wives are scared of her. Then the fifth one is Shupiwa (Cindy Daka), who had a fight with the new wife immediately after she arrived.
2. When Tamara arrives, the drama is a sight to behold
Tamara, played by Shakirah Phiri, is the wife that Zungu adds as his sixth wife.
She’s young and beautiful, making the other wives jealous and makes them feel neglected. Her addition has caused a raging fire in the Zungu house and this gives the old man a heart attack.
3. The show is relatable
The show delves into unique family dynamics within a polygamist household as well as the complexities that come with it.
In Mpali, we get to see the day-to-day challenges that families in this setting have to go through. The man has shed tears many times because of the pain his wives cause him.
