BBNaija Sunday Eviction: Lucy out as Erica gets disqualified

The drama has intensified in the Big Brother Naija Lockdown season and with two weeks left to the end, the game has switched its tempo.

30-year old Lucy Edet became the 10th evictee in one of the most sombre eviction shows of the season.

Prior to the eviction, 26-year-old Erica Nlewedim, a fan favourite, was disqualified from the show for multiple infringements from Saturday night. Erica, who already had two strikes and a final warning from previous offences thus became the first housemate in the Big Brother Lockdown season and the first Head of House in the history of Big Brother Naija to be disqualified.

Biggie also found Neo guilty of obstructing another housemate’s freedom of movement during his quarrel with love interest Vee, landing him with a final strong warning. Vee also earned a strong warning for dancing the fine lines of violence by pushing Neo.

After the housemates survived a strike and disqualification, it was time to face another Sunday live eviction show.

Here’s what went down.

Important questions

After congratulating Prince for being Deputy Head of House, Ebuka asked him what’s causing the tension and fighting in the house, referring to the way Prince snapped during the week, despite usually being a calm person. Prince feels the housemates are losing patience with each other, and, being in a confined space results in a lower tolerance for continuous negative behaviour.

Ebuka moved on to Lucy and asked her what had changed in the house. The housemates have recently started playing the role she has been playing through the season, which is the emotional and vocal one in the game. She said realisation and time had hit them: the housemates now realised that although it is a game, the emotions felt by human beings were real. To her, the housemates were starting to show their real selves.

Ebuka then went on to Nengi and asked her if she believed that people were starting to change or tweak their strategy. She agreed that people were changing and that right now people’s true emotions and characters were showing. Ebuka also asked her who she thought had the best strategy among the housemates and she said Prince. When asked what she felt his strategy was, she said she did not know but she felt he used his head for a lot of things.

Ebuka questioned Vee next. He asked what her thoughts were on using relationships as a strategy and if she felt anyone was using it. She said getting into a relationship in the house was not a good strategy and will not work because relationships require a lot more to work. She added that she didn’t feel anyone was using relationships as a strategy in the house as no one had the strength for that.

The week that was in the Big Brother House

The eviction

Ebuka had announced a new eviction method last week. The housemates now nominate each other for eviction in the Diary Room, and it’s up to the fans to save their favourites. This excludes the Head of House and their deputy as they have immunity for the week.

Lucy, Kiddwaya, Trickytee, Nengi and Vee found themselves on the chopping block and after the question and answer session, Ebuka proceeded to the eviction of the day. Wishing them good luck, he announced that at least one person was leaving the lockdown house. He called Kiddwaya first and after a long pause, he asked him to sit as he was safe, much to everyone’s relief. After much suspense, Ebuka finally announced Lucy as the 10th evictee. Without as much as a goodbye, Lucy proceeded to leave the house, attracting comments from fans on social media.

Lucy chats with Ebuka

After the eviction, Lucy joined Ebuka on the stage for an interview. She admitted she did not hug anyone because she did not want to cry and not because she did not like them. When Ebuka asked how she felt when the housemates saw her as too emotional and confrontational, she said she could not fathom how other housemates could not see what she saw. She mentioned that Erica and Kiddwaya, for example, became two different people when they were Head of House and when they were not and no one seemed to see that.

Ebuka asked why it seemed she rebelled during Erica’s HOH reign and she said she did not rebel and tried to cooperate with her. He went on to ask what happened between herself, Dorathy and Prince and why she said they were not her friends. Lucy said that Dorathy and Prince hurt her as they acted in ways that she did not expect friends to act.

After viewing her highlights, Ebuka asked about her developing feelings for Praise and if she was willing to pursue it before he left. She said she liked him from the first week but did not pursue it because of his relationship outside the house. She added that nothing would have happened as she respected his relationship and would never get involved.

After the round of questions, Lucy shared her plans – to focus on her restaurant and her nail studio.

Final question

After his chat with Lucy, Ebuka crossed back into the house and asked Neo his thoughts on fighting as a strategy in the house. Neo said to him everyone’s energy in the house was competing and one way for people to stand out was through fighting and so it will always remain a strategy.

A little scare

Ebuka asked the remaining housemates up for eviction to stand. Wishing them good luck, he proceeded to call the next evictee. He called Trickytee and after a long pause, he said he was saved. Trickytee, who seemed so sure he was going home, sank to the ground in appreciation.

Ebuka called Vee next and with the same theatrics asked her to sit as she was saved. After a dramatic pause, he asked the other housemates to sit as they were all saved.

A reminder

Ebuka as usual left a reminder. He advised the housemates that regardless of the tough week they might have ahead and the tendency to play safe it might bring, they should remember to take care of themselves, keep up the energy, and enjoy themselves.

He ended the show with the pidgin quote: “Fingernail senior teeth but na still teeth dey bite am comot’’.
