Brexit: The Uncivil War (2019)
Few events have been as seismic in the recent history of the UK as Brexit – and it’s not over yet. And while people like David Cameron and Boris Johnson pushed their Brexit agenda on the world stage, it seems the real puppetmasters were behind the scenes.
In this HBO true-life movie, Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (Patrick Melrose) stars as political strategist Dominic Cummings, who led the campaign to convince British voters to leave the European Union. The movie goes deep into the Leave and Remain campaigns leading up to the 2016 referendum.
The Times (UK) called Brexit “rollickingly good entertainment, in a heart-sinking ‘oh, but this is still our real-life car crash’ kind of way.”
This film was a 2019 Emmy nominee for Best TV Movie, and a 2020 Critics Choice nominee for Best TV Movie.
