Christian’s behaviour scrutinized in Life With Kelly Khumalo

Besides singing, if there’s one thing Kelly is great at, it’s being a present and loving mother to her kids, Christian and Thingo.

However, like many parents, Kelly has her fair share of problems when it comes to raising her children. And the most recent problem involves her eldest child, Christian.

A very adult conversation

After returning from a fabulous and fun trip to Mozambique, reality settles in for Kelly as she receives a concerning message from Christian’s school.

According to the mother of two, Christian is said to have discussed adult movies with a classmate.

This information comes as a disturbing surprise to Kelly as she knows Christian doesn’t own a phone and that her kids are in bed by 8pm, so there is no time for him to watch anything late at night.

“If there is anything that is taxing, emotionally taxing, it’s the fact that every two to three weeks I must go back to Christian’s school because he’s done this and that. It’s exhausting. I’m tired as a parent,” says Kelly.

Christian’s not entirely at fault

While Kelly is trying to understand Christian’s behaviour, she finds out that it was not Christian who brought up the adult movies discussion – it was his classmate who initiated it.

Kelly is disturbed to learn that the kids were talking about sex, condoms and private parts. This is something that Kelly has not even begun to discuss with her almost 11-year-old son.

What does Kelly do now?

Kelly is now stuck between a rock and a hard place. She did not expect to have the sex talk with Christian so early in his development. But as Wanda advises her, Kelly might need to speak to Christian sooner rather than later.

“It’s an opportunity for you to have that conversation with him, but not in a conflicting manner,” says Wanda.

Kelly eventually calms down and expresses that she’s actually glad this is happening now. She also acknowledges that her son is an intelligent and honourable boy, but that she may need to tighten up his discipline a little.
