Corporate S1
Working in a big company isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially if you’re the disgruntled lead characters in comedy series Corporate. But that’s the best part: pessimistic comedy is just too much fun to ignore!
Executive producers Jake Weisman and Matt Ingebretson star as Jake Levinson and Matt Engelbertson and it’s an understatement to say that they hate their jobs. They despise work. They can’t stand their colleagues. They’re not fans of their mega multi-national bosses at Hampton DeVille either. If they could burn the office building to the floor, they would.
And that’s what makes Corporate so relatable in the current world – because the pair are saying what so many people are thinking, experiencing and living. That their lives have passed them by and they’re stuck in dead-end jobs with no growth prospects that they can’t actually stand.
The show is sharp and witty, using office norms like boring meetings and mass feel-good emails to good effect with its “I hate work” theme. And that’s why you’ll love Corporate, explains Vulture.com’s Vikram Murthi: “Corporate’s casual, matter-of-fact delivery of its cultural verdicts never scans as needy pleas for applause or pats on the back, but rather sober analysis of a culture coming apart at the seams. There’s a real sense of existential terror coursing through the series, but that feeling arrives appropriately dulled because it exists in a world that rarely rewards such emotion.”
