Showmax spotlights Dami Elebe: The Nollywood creative genius
One of the amazing women who have contributed immensely to the world’s third-largest film industry is Dami Elebe. Though not in front of the camera, the creative genius is the mind behind many Nollywood hit series. Dami wrote the highly acclaimed comedy web series Skinny Girl In Transit (SGIT).
A multi-talented creative, Dami was an on-air personality (OAP) at Classic FM, Beat FM, and Naija FM for seven years.
Dami is the brain behind Up North, directed by Tope Oshin. She also wrote From Lagos With Love, which screened in cinemas in August 2018, and Rumour Has It. She has also worked with many talented actors and actresses in the industry, including Sharon Ooja, Nonso Bassey, Jon Ogah, Etim Effiong, Damilola Adegbite, and Shaffy Bello.
Describing her writing process in a past interview, Dami said, “Writing is such ‘flow work’. I just made that phrase up to explain my process. When I say ‘flow work’, it means if I’m not in the mood to write, nothing will work. Also, this will sound disgusting, but you make the best ideas in the toilet. I usually eat foods that will get me to stay longer there. Sometimes I do anything that makes me feel like I’m in detox mode just to get me to spend at least an hour in the toilet. There I get to act out the scenes in my head by myself while I turn on the sound recorder, so I don’t forget the dialogue I’ve come up with.”
Dami Elebe studied advertising and art at Lee University, USA, and has immensely impacted Nollywood. She was awarded the 2018 ELOY awards Scriptwriter of The Year prize for her work in Nollywood. Here’s to today’s Woman of Showmax!
