Erin Brockovich (2000)
Julia Roberts plays title character Erin, a single mom desperate for work. And she gets it working as a secretary/paralegal/personal assistant for the lawyer who lost her case against a doctor. It’s not long before Erin starts interfering in a case when the evidence doesn’t make sense and a corporate giant is seemingly getting away with murder.
This is a biographical drama, so about 90% of what happens is accurate and truthful – the real Erin was heavily involved with it (cleverly cameoing as the waitress named Julia). The acting is flawless and it won Julia the Best Actress Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and many more. Her co-stars do a great supporting job. And Steven Soderbergh directed it masterfully.
Movie critic Steven Isaac at pluggedin.com says that “this movie epitomises the triumph of the human spirit in the face of heavy-handed corporate greed. It energises audiences with its David vs Goliath drama. It elevates the gravity of true justice, and showcases what people can accomplish when they set their minds to it.”
