Family Guy S17
Seth MacFarlane created Family Guy way back in 1999 and it’s still going strong. While the Griffins are fictional – they have a talking dog, come on – Seth tackles real-world problems and situations that make the show accessible to everyone.
Season 17 is no different, except unlike Seth’s other baby American Dad!, the seasons do sort of follow each other. You don’t need to have seen previous seasons, although it does make it easier for you to follow.
The episodes are just 22 minutes, which is super-binge-able, but they still manage to run arcs including controversial US President Donald Trump, trans-gender identity, North Korea’s censorship controls and fake news, all of which viewers will be able to identify with because they exist in the real world.
Seth’s outlandish, quirky humour is one of its strengths, as well as the fact that they don’t mind hitting left of centre, says Jesse Bereta from bubbleblabber.com: “As controversial as they can sometimes be, it is those out-of-the-box formula changing episodes that separates Family Guy from many of our other animated sitcom options. When the show decides to keep things grounded in a traditional platform, it tends to suffer.”
