Flawsome episode 4 recap: “You’re going to die a bitter single woman”

Poju’s gambling addiction has finally caught up with him. The one million Naira he borrowed to gamble is due and the creditor wants his money. They beat him black and blue, demanding Ivie pay them before they release him. But she is an intern and can’t afford to.

Enters Dolapo, the saviour of the day. Immediately after, Poju berates Ivie over Dolapo’s interference and how that will lead to see finish. She’s shocked at how fragile his ego is. He tries to get physical with her, but Dolapo enters the room and saves the day again.

She does a lot of saving in this episode, but she might also need saving. The evil acts of her clients are clashing with her friends’ moral excellence, and she must take a position. First, Ramat and Abel’s quarrel over Eve escalates on social media; he is trending for rape and brands associated with him are asking questions. He calls Dolapo to fix things, but she hesitates because her friend is involved. Yet she feels loyal to her client. She opts for a cowardly solution: asking her assistant to handle the case. Sarah goes in ruthlessly, bringing Ramat’s mum, a victim of rape, into the case.

“You did this,” Ramat blames Dolapo, who begs and promises to fix it. Ramat fires back, “the way you fixed it when I told you to?”

They have a back-and-forth, and Dolapo reminds her friend that her job is to fix her clients’ reputations, not ruin them. She tries to play both sides, advising Ramat not to let emotions cloud her judgement while insinuating Eve could be lying. The final straw for Ramat was Dolapo pushing the innocent until proven guilty stance in defence of Abel.

Then there is her ex, Ranti, a man from whom she has taken so much, including a scholarship that kicked off her journey to success. Now, she’s ruined his journalism career to protect Senator Jubril.

“We can fix this,” Dolapo tells Ranti, again emphasizing how her life mission has now become fixing broken things.

Unlike her conversation with Ramat, she is remorseful here. Perhaps she now understands the
consequences of her actions and the lines she crosses to protect her client. But Ranti doesn’t
want her money or aid because everything from her is tainted.

This episode focuses on Dolapo’s sharklike nature: the ruthlessness she embodies to get the
job done. It has made her ultra-successful, but at a cost: she lacks compassion and no longer
sees the lines between good and evil. All she cares about is ensuring her clients maintain a
pristine public image and this is destroying her conscience. Ranti leaves her with a perhaps harsh message, but it might ring true: “you’re going to die a bitter single woman.”
