Little Women S1
Little Women is having something of a moment right now. The new movie, starring Emma Watson and Saoirse Ronan, has critics in a tizz. If you want to get deeper into the story, based classic by Louisa May Alcott, watch this British miniseries created by the writer of Call the Midwife.
The story follows the lives of four sisters during the American civil war. In the first episode, the March sisters and their mother face a bleak Christmas: without presents and without their father. Starring Emily Watson as Marmee, and with Angela Lansbury as Aunt March, it’s a lovely remake of this touching coming-of-age story.
RogerEbert.com said: “This is a production that’s deeply affectionate toward its characters, the lives they lead, and the time and place from which they’ve emerged. But none of that fondness, none of the sweetness, renders the March women (or the women of “Call the Midwife”) anything less than fully, achingly human. It’s Alcott by way of Linklater, Lonergan, or Ozu, and it is terrific.”
