Monica S3 finale: “The dead do nothing”
Monica S3 has been a roller coaster of emotions and drama, from Mariga (Ephy Saint) finding out about Monica’s (Brenda Wairimu) plot against the Jiwes to Mike (Sam Komora) and Vivian (Joyce Maina) eloping to Mike dying which turned out to be fake thanks to Monica’s elaborate scheme to Monica losing the deputy governorship to the new hire Jesse (Janet Mbugua).
But nothing could have prepared us for that surprise ending that saw both Monica and Jesse turn to murderers. Oops, spoiler alert. Time to stop reading now if you haven’t watched the finale.
Certainly, a showdown between Monica and Jesse would have been a perfect ending but seeing both women end up with blood on their hands instead reminded us that they are more alike than they care to admit. They are both willing to do anything, even kill, just to get what they want.
A meddling mother-in-law, complicated love and a tumble down the stairs
Monica started this season on a high with two great romantic relationships and a thriving career at the governor’s office. But things started going downhill when she lost the deputy governorship to Jesse. Then came the terrible accident that killed her cousin Mike even though it was revealed later that Monica staged his death to punish the Jiwes.

As if this wasn’t enough, Mariga, her one true love, left her for someone else. But trust Monica to always have a back-up plan. She soon got engaged to Bob (Fidel Maithya) and for a moment everything seemed to be working out until Bob’s past came knocking on the door – Bob’s newborn baby and the mother to his now MIA baby mama Annie (Sision Torome). Yes, the best ones have baggage too.
And Monica isn’t one to lose twice in a day, especially when she’s been taunted by Bob’s meddling ex-mother-in-law. She finally snapped and pushed the poor woman down the stairs together with Bob’s baby. Seeing Monica standing on top of the stairs and staring down at her victims without an ounce of remorse isn’t really how we pictured this season would end.
A governor’s scandal and a trigger-happy deputy governor
Jesse on the other hand, even though we didn’t always see much of her this season, had been busy “plotting a takeover” at the governor’s office and stepping on powerful toes in her war against corruption.
Love Monica? You’ll like these too…
But a woman with such air of mystery around her must have skeletons in the closet and Jesse’s came out in the finale when Governor Jiwe (Raymond Ofula) is hit by a scandal. Turns out Jesse was behind the leak, but her accomplice – an unnamed mystery man – shared the information with the press prematurely. And well, Jesse doesn’t take too kindly to betrayal. Before we could even grasp what was going on, she pulled out a gun and shot her accomplice twice, followed by her final words “the dead do nothing.” An unexpected turn of events from a woman who’s maintained her cool since we met her in episode 5, but yeah, looks like she’s definitely done this before.
