Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit) has been haunted by demons all his life. Not vices like drugs and booze and gambling. Instead, he’s plagued by actual demons in supernatural horror series Outcast. And they aren’t here to play nice.

Kyle has been vilified in his small-town community after he’s accused of abusing his wife, daughter and friends. “It’s not me,” he claims – and you believe him, even though no one else does. Because there’s got to be an explanation for these strange, unexplained occurrences taking place in the middle of the sticks, right?

The show is based on the horror comic book series of the same name written by Robert Kirkman, the guy who gave us The Walking Dead. So it’s going to be scary. Outcast is dark and the demonic imagery will probably give you nightmares, so watch it with your lights on.

The episodes fly past and there are only 20, so it’s a proper good binge as we work up to Halloween on 31 October. Be warned though: “Unlike The Walking Dead, where viewers and the characters can see the enemy coming, in this show the threat is unseen, lurking under the surface. The demon characters exist in the present but live in the past, haunted by terrors and ordeals from days gone by,” writes film critic James Charisma.
