Who’s who in Sex in Afrikaans

Sex in Afrikaans fearlessly examines sex and sexuality in the Afrikaans community, breaking barriers and having frank conversations about topics that are usually shrouded in shame.

None of this would be possible without the brave participation of the panellists and professionals who appear in the show and share their experiences. Here are some of the cast of Sex in Afrikaans who made an impression.

Bradley R Daniels – Presenter

Clinical psychologist Bradley has a rich tapestry of experience in psychology, coaching, human resources, marketing and media. He trained in South Africa and abroad, at New York University (NYU) and the Institute for Human Identity. He says he’s still waiting for the day when his jaw drops and he has to say “I’ve never heard that before!”

Erika (36) & Kobus (41)

Erika and Kobus have been together since 2002 and married for 15 years. They have two children. They have sex two to three times a week and are very adventurous. Kobus would love to have sex on a beach, while Erica would like a cosy assignation in Sutherland. 

Brady (35) & Tracy-Lynn (35)

Brady and Tracy-Lynn have been together for three and a half years and married for three. Both are the children of pastors. They are very open about sex and their kids say they talk about it way too much! Tracy is the more experienced partner and has participated in an orgy. Brady has a nurse fantasy and would love to try a three- or foursome. 

Justin (40) & Neil (41)

Justin and Neil have known each other for more than 22 years, but have been in a relationship for less than a year. Neil grew up a Mormon and was married to a woman for 10 years. In 2016, he divorced his wife and started being true to himself. Justin has tried everything when it comes to sex, while Neil is beginning to explore his own fantasies. 

Carl (29) & Reina (31)

Carl and Reina met on Tinder and have been dating for a few months. Carl has never been married but has been in several monogamous relationships and has had multiple partners. Reina was in a 10-year marriage but did very little exploring – she’s now ready to try all kinds of new things. Carl and Reina are open about their fantasies, and not afraid to share.

Paul’s first partner was his wife, from whom he got divorced five years ago after 30 years of faithful marriage. At the time of filming, Paul was enjoying the single life, although looking for something more serious. He had two children. Paul has sadly passed away since the documentary was filmed.

Rea is somewhere on the spectrum between conservative and liberal when it comes to sex. She isn’t keen on sex toys, swinging or casual sex, but has been known to send the odd sexy pic, and wouldn’t say no to a foot massage. 

Episode 1: Sex workers 

Amanda (30) – Sex worker

Based in Welkom, she’s been in the sex industry for 11 years. She started out as a dancer at Playgirls in Bloemfontein when she was unable to find a job after completing her studies. She sees six to seven customers per day, 90% of whom are Afrikaans. 

Episode 2: Sex Toys 

Yolindie Botha (35) – Owner, Lollipop Lingerie

Yolindie is the owner of Lollipop Lingerie and has been in the sex toy industry for 10 years. In the show, she opens a pop-up sex toy shop in Parys in the Free State. She says 65% of her customers are Afrikaans and most of her orders go to small rural towns. Yolindie is married with five kids – three of her own, and two stepchildren.

Arthur Calamaras (62) – Owner, Adult World

Arthur is a legend in the sex industry in South Africa. He’s lived in the country for 21 years and owns 48 Adult World shops across the country. He believes “Afrikaans people and the adult industry go hand-in-hand.”

Episode 3: Pornography

Lacy Lexi (31) & Straight Shot Rod (42) – Internet porn stars 

Rod and Lexi met at a club where Lexi was a dancer. They have been married since 2018, and as a profession, do porn and live sex shows on the internet. They do all the marketing, lighting, camera work and editing themselves, and love finding fun locations for their shows – like the Voortrekker Monument. 

Scarlet Moon – Internet and WhatsApp porn star

From sending dirty voice notes to clients, to sharing photos and videos, Scarlet Moon makes a living from being sexy. Her ultimate dream is to teach people – especially women – how to embrace their sexuality.

Episode 4: Swinging 

Chippy & Chantelle – Swingers 

Former singer and male stripper Chippy dated four women at the same time before settling down (sort of) with Chantelle. They are very active in the lifestyle, swinging almost every weekend. Chippy is a bodyguard and has protected the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith and Nelson Mandela. 

Episode 5: BDSM

Francois (47) – Dungeon Master 

Francois explains that the Dungeon Master’s role is to make sure BDSM play is safe, sane and consensual. He has been in the lifestyle for 17 years, but has fantasised about it since he was 12. He offers a wide range of services, including home visits where he teaches BDSM. He estimates half his clients are Afrikaans, as he is. 

Episode 6: Fetishes 

Miss Cleo (50) – Owner of Fetish Haven

Miss Cleo owns Fetish Haven, a kink entertainment venue in Johannesburg. She has been in the lifestyle for 27 years, and her specialty is pegging – sex with a strap-on. She feels the lifestyle is growing and gaining respect in South Africa. Around half of her clients are Afrikaans.
