Showmax Mobile and MTN special data deal: 1GB of data for streaming every month

Showmax has partnered with MTN to offer Showmax Mobile customers 1GB of data, which will allow for up to 10 hours’ worth of streaming the series, movies, kids’ shows and more in the Showmax catalogue, every month until 31 October 2021 on your mobile device.

A Showmax Mobile subscription usually costs R39 per month, and offers subscribers access to the full Showmax catalogue on one mobile device – either a smartphone or tablet.

When customers sign up between 15 October 2020 and 31 October 2021, they can select the Showmax Mobile subscription with data, and receive 1GB of data from MTN for streaming shows, movies and more on their device. This great-value bundle will cost just R49 per month.

Existing Showmax Mobile customers simply have to change their subscription to the Showmax Mobile subscription with data and add it to their MTN bill to qualify for the data. Customers who take the Showmax Mobile plus data subscription via their MTN bill will continue to receive the data every month on a recurring basis, until the deal expires on 31 October 2021.

When subscribers stream on mobile devices and use Showmax’s bandwidth capping feature, Showmax uses as little as 100MB per hour of streaming. This means that 1GB of data will give customers up to 10 hours’ worth of streaming. Read more about bandwidth capping »

Who qualifies for this deal?

New or existing Showmax customers who add the Showmax Mobile subscription to their MTN pre-paid or contract bill.

What does the deal entail?

Customers who newly add a recurring Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription to their MTN bill via carrier billing between the 15th of October 2020 and the 31st of October 2021 (Promo Period), will be provisioned for a Showmax Mobile Subscription by Showmax as well as have a 1GB Showmax data bundle loaded by MTN at a single price point of R49.

How do I get this offer?

  • Go to https://www.showmax.com/eng/mtn
  • Click Add to Bill in the Showmax Mobile window on the left.
  • Enter your email address and create a password to sign up to Showmax as a new subscriber. If you are an existing subscriber, simply sign in and change your billing details by selecting MTN Add to Bill.
  • Click Continue to proceed.
  • Accept Ts & Cs and click “pay with MTN”.
  • Enter your MTN phone number to receive your OTP.
  • Enter the OTP and click “submit verification code”.

What happens if a customer signs up to Showmax Mobile during the Promo Period?

Customers who signed up to the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription during the Promo Period will continue to be entitled to enjoy this Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription for R49 monthly until 31 October 2021 unless the subscription is cancelled or until the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription is switched to another Showmax price plan without any associated data bundles.

What happens to the customer’s Showmax Mobile subscription at the end of the Promo Period?

Any customer still subscribed to the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription at the end of the Promo Period will automatically have their subscription changed to a Showmax Mobile package subscription with no associated data bundle for R39 per month.

Will I be eligible for the trial period if I sign up for this Promo?

Customers who sign up to the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription will not be eligible for the 14-day Showmax trial period.

Free trials are only applicable to new Showmax customers subscribing to Showmax Standard without the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription. Showmax Pro subscribers do not get a free trial. 

What happens if I switch from a Showmax Standard package to a Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription?

If a customer switches from a Showmax Standard package to a Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription package, the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription package will be billed for and start immediately and a subscription credit will be created for any remaining Showmax Standard package subscription days to be used at a later stage determined by the subscriber.

What happens if I switch from a Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription package to a Showmax Standard Package?

If a customer switches from a Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription package to a Showmax Standard package, the Showmax Standard package subscription will be billed for and start immediately and a subscription credit will be created for any remainder Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription package days to be used at a later stage determined by the subscriber.  

How will my billing work should I change subscription packages?

All subscription package changes from Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription will be charged immediately to you via MTN bill and a subscription credit will be created for any remainder subscription days to be used at a later stage determined by the subscriber. 

What happens when I switch from the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription to any other Showmax subscription?

When a subscriber changes from the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription to any other Showmax subscription, no additional data will be provisioned or billed for.

What happens if I do not use up all my data?

Any unused and unexpired Showmax viewing data allocated from the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription can still be used to watch using any other Showmax subscriptions until the data is depleted. 

Is there a period within which I can re-subscribe to enjoy the benefits of the Promo?

A customer can decide to re-subscribe to the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription within the Promo Period only. 

Will I receive the 1GB of data as soon as I take up the offer?

The 1GB Showmax viewing data bundles associated with Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription are supplied with each Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription anniversary on a monthly recurring basis.

How many hours of Showmax can I stream using the data provided?

1GB of Showmax viewing data represents approximately 10 hours of viewing data based on you being subscribed to the Showmax Mobile product as part of the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription, viewed on a mobile device with the bandwidth capping in the Showmax application set to Low.

What happens if I run out of my data allocation?

Reaching the 1GB of the Showmax viewing data bundle associated with the Showmax Mobile Promo Subscription does not mean the end of your access Showmax Service for the rest of the month. Customers can purchase additional Showmax data bundles if they run out. Dial *136*2# to purchase your data bundles via USSD or connect to the MyMTN app.

Can I use the data however I choose?

No, the data is limited to streaming Showmax only.

What period is the deal valid for?

The deal is valid till 31 October 2021. It will therefore come to an end at 23:59 on 31 October 2021.

How long is the data valid for?

Showmax viewing data is valid for 30 days. Showmax viewing data that is unused at the end of the 30 day validity period will expire and therefore cannot be transferred to the next subscription period.

Is it only MTN data?

Yes. No other teleco data will be given during this time of the promotion. This promo is only applicable to MTN customers.

Will the customer need to complete their mobile numbers on their Showmax account?

Yes. The number that will be used to send the SMS to, will be the number on the customer’s Showmax account.
