The best local TV weddings
We’ll admit, we really love weddings. Whether it’s a friend, a family member or even a celebrity tying the knot, nothing compares to witnessing two people expressing their love for each other.
In the last few years, South African TV viewers have been fortunate enough to see some of the most beautiful weddings on screen. Just to show that people are big fans of love, some of these weddings have broken viewing records on their respective channels.
Watch: Living the Dream with Somizi Season 5, first on Showmax from 4 May 2022
Showmax original, Somizi & Mohale: The Union became the show with most views ever on its first day, while part one of Becoming Mrs Jones was VUZU Amp’s highest-rated show in the history of that channel. Let’s show you why these weddings are some of the best we’ve seen on local TV.
Minnie Dlamini-Jones & Quinton Jones – Becoming Mrs Jones
Fans got really excited after Minnie Dlamini-Jones announced that she’d have a three-part wedding special. If you’ve been following the TV host and entrepreneur over the years, you’ll know that she’s quite particular about what she chooses to put out there. There wasn’t much known about her relationship with Quinton Jones, and this is why the wedding special was the perfect opportunity for fans to learn more about the couple.
Becoming Mrs Jones revealed intimate details about the lovebirds like how they met, the proposal and why she decided that he’s the man for her. The three-part series, beautifully narrated by Mrs Jones, took viewers through Minnie’s bachelorette in Paris, her traditional wedding in her hometown of KwaZulu-Natal and her white wedding, which was held in Cape Town.
Tumi & Zolani – The River
Although there was a bit of drama when Lindani crashed the ceremony, things carried on smoothly after Tumi chose to commit to Zolani. She got there fairly late as her adoptive mother, the late Malefu, walked her down the aisle.
Dineo & Solo Langa – Kwakuhle Kwethu
This couple’s love story started in 2011, and continues to grow each day. On their wedding special, Kwakuhle Kwethu, the couple not only took viewers through their love journey, but also displayed just how connected they are spiritually. Both Dineo and Solo are trained Sangomas and, as seen on the show, this is a very important part of their lives.
While the wedding had many special and breathtakingly beautiful moments, their vows were certainly a big highlight. Solo shared: “The thought of the memories we’re yet to create, I can already think of the number of songs I am going to write. I really love you… and I always hope that my actions show it.” Dineo’s vows were also unforgettable.
Somizi Mhlongo & Mohale Motaung – Somizi & Mohale: The Union
Remember when Somizi proposed to Mohale on his reality show Living the Dream with Somizi? That was such a special moment. After the proposal, fans looked forward to the big day. Somizi never misses the mark when it comes to delivering great content and that’s exactly what viewers got from his four-part wedding special, Somizi & Mohale: The Union.
The Idols SA judge and radio host had two weddings – traditional and white – which were attended by some of the country’s most loved personalities including Bonang Matheba, Lerato Kganyago, Pearl Thusi, Minnie Dlamini-Jones and others. The wedding special did not only show the couple’s road to the altar, but it also zoomed in on the close relationship Somizi has with his mother, Mary Twala. A scene that really touched people’s hearts was that emotional moment between the mother and son. It was truly a pure moment of joy and gratitude.

Thandeka & Sbu – Isibaya
This is undoubtedly one of the best love stories we’ve ever seen on TV. Thandeka and Sbu, played by Nomzamo Mbatha and Sbu Mtshali, portrayed their on-screen relationship so well that viewers were convinced that they were dating in real life.
Their traditional wedding day was nothing short of amazing. It was a colourful celebration of love and a beautiful depiction of what a Zulu wedding looks like. There was a lot of singing, dancing and exchanging of gifts. Both families beamed with pride as they witnessed the special occasion. Fans even went as far as labelling this the perfect wedding.
You can relive the magical moments by watching all these weddings on Showmax.
