The Real Housewives of Durban Season 2: Bosom buddies Annie and Londie
They might enjoy sharing gossip, fashion tips and cocktails, but is Annie Mthembu and Londie London’s friendship strong enough to survive Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Durban?
Season 2 started with three new faces: musician Londie London, reality TV star Thobile Mseleku and artist Jojo Robinson. The three new cast members weren’t complete strangers to the original cast – in fact, Annie Mthembu claimed that she was friends with 29-year-old fashionista and entrepreneur Londie London.
But are they real friends?
The way Annie describes her friendship with Londie, they’re solid. But Londie paints a different picture. During one of Londie’s confessionals, she denied being as close to Annie. “Annie and I are not besties, but we hang out,” said mom-of-one, Londie.
And Annie and Londie have been hanging out alright! Before attending a black-tie event hosted by a mystery person (who later turned out to be Thobile), Londie and Annie met for tea to debrief Nonku Williams’ season-opening Spring Has Sprung picnic. Although the ladies didn’t spend all day together, they seemed to get along during their quick chat. They used the same slang words and they also laughed at the same jokes.
Friends invite each other to weddings, right?
Sitting at a dinner together, the group of ladies engaged in conversation. As usual, Nonku stirred things up. Considering that Annie had a luxurious white wedding with her business mogul hubby Kgolo “Daguru” Mthembu in 2021, Nonku was wondering why Annie didn’t invite her “friend” Londie to the ceremony.
Annie and Kgolo tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at La Paris Estate in Franschhoek. He’s a creative director of marketing and events agency Kgolo Daguru Experiential, and he’s also an events promoter and runs a chain of nightclubs in Durban.
When asked by Nonku why Londie wasn’t at the wedding, Annie, in her defence, had a valid explanation that due to Covid-19 restrictions, she had a limited number of guests, which was just family and close friends, and Londie didn’t make the cut. Nonku didn’t buy the story but it seems that Londie was not fazed by not getting invited.
What did you say about my friend?
At another sit-in in Season 2, Annie brought up a rather problematic comment made by Nonku regarding Londie’s looks. What a way to throw Nonku under the bus, huh?
Nonku, in Londie’s absence, mentioned how Londie doesn’t look like her Instagram photos and so, during Londie’s Sip & See event, Nonku is made to repeat what she said about Londie.
Although we’re still a bit sceptical about Londie and Annie’s friendship, what Mrs Mthembu does with that comment made by Nonku shows that to a certain extent she has Londie’s back and doesn’t appreciate people talking smack about her chommie.
