The Stand In (2020)
Hollywood A-lister Candy Black (Drew) has it all but she’s unhappy. She’s rude to her employees, despises life, and has a history of substance abuse. She hits rock-bottom, though, when she attacks her co-star and goes into hiding for five years… which sees her ignore her taxes. Uh-oh.
That’s where her former stunt double Paula (Drew wearing a fake latex schnoz) comes in. Paula hasn’t had Candy’s luck in showbiz and she’s struggling to make ends meet. So when Candy is sent to tax rehab (yes… rehab for tax offenders), she hires Paula to go in her place. In exchange, Candy will return to acting so that Paula can start working on big productions again. But fame is like a drug and Paula gets addicted to “Candy’s” attention, refusing to give Candy her life back.
Drew has been Candy – she was depressed, abused drugs and booze, and she wasn’t always a nice person. So it’s art imitating life hilariously. It’s light and fun, and Drew is brilliant as the Star and her Stand In.
