Unmarried S3, episode 5: Bode’s jig is up!
As the story continues to unfold on Unmarried, there is a new twist and turn with every episode. Just when we think it can’t get any more intense, the plot has us shook again!
Here’s a recap of the latest episode.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Lotanna’s spiritual cleansing doesn’t quite go as planned
Fellow Unmarried enthusiasts, you will recall that in the last episode, Lotanna defied Kamsi’s ultimatum and still went for the spiritual retreat to enable him find a solution to his deadbeat behaviour.
Well, it turns out that Lota did not in fact attend the retreat but was busy bar hopping instead.
Somto, Kamsi’s sister, who originally suggested the spiritual cleansing, is furious that Lota didn’t complete the exercise and squandered all the money she gave him on drinking.
Kamsi quickly reminds Somto about what she’d said earlier – that Lotanna’s problems were not spiritual but simply a result of his laziness and failure to take responsibility. We hate to say it, but Kamsi was right on this one.
Kamsi confides in Nengi that her marriage to Lota is over and she wants a divorce because he has refused to change and she has grown less tolerant of his deadbeat ways.
Iya Funbi and Joe team up to get Ali out
Never in a million years did we think we would agree with Iya Funbi but she is definitely right on this one. Ali is manipulating Funbi and preying on her insecurities. How is everyone else not seeing this? Not even Kamsi and Nengi? Na wah oh!
Funbi informs her mother that Ali is picking out a house for them to live in after the wedding. When her mother asks for details – like where the house is located – Funbi responds: “That’s Ali’s job, all I have to do is move in with my pretty self.”
Iya Funbi expresses concern that Ali is too controlling of her but Funbi angrily tells her mother off.
Who knew a day would come when Iya Funbi and Joe would actually agree on something? We are glad that some people can see that Ali is a disaster waiting to happen. They decide to work together to get him out of Funbi’s life for good.
But Funbi is furious when Ali decides to give her space because Joe and her mother are making him “uncomfortable” She issues a stern warning to them to either act right, or risk being thrown out of her house.
Funbi needs an intervention and she needs it now!
Nengi inadvertently befriends Bode’s wife
The minute we saw Bode’s wife, Bibi, at the gym where Nengi works out, we figured this episode would end in premium tears. Call us crazy, but we knew their meeting couldn’t be a mere coincidence.
They soon strike up a conversation and Bibi tells Nengi about her crumbling marriage and how getting her husband back is her motivation for losing weight.
Nengi, bless her kind heart, suggests that Bibi starts an Instagram page about her weight loss to enable her to earn some money on the side. She even recruits the help of Mayowa to help set up the account. She also offers Bibi a shoulder to cry on and lots of emotional support.
Meanwhile, Nengi is concerned about the status of Bode’s marriage. She is uncomfortable with the fact that he still lives under the same roof with his estranged wife. Bode allays her fears and steers the conversation towards throwing her an intimate birthday party. He specifically asks that she invite her nearest and dearest so that he can get a chance to finally meet them.
Now, this is where it gets intense. Nengi invites all her friends including… you guessed it, Bibi.
Omo, that jaw-dropping moment when Bibi walks into the party and hits Bode with “so this is the bitch you’re leaving me for?”
That last scene had us reeling and we are still not over it.
We must give it to Bode’s wife though, she sure knows how to play the long game.
Is this the end of Kamsi’s marriage? Will Iya Funbi and Joe succeed in getting rid of Ali? Will Funbi finally see the light? How will Nengi survive this heartbreak?
