He told Uthanda Bani’s Basani that they met in 2016 and it was love at first sight for Walter. “She seemed like a nice girl. She was the girl of my dreams, and I was fond of her. I thought she was going to be my future wife,” he explained. He shared that the relationship was good in the beginning, and she was good to him.
Things started falling apart in 2021 when he discovered her gambling addiction. “She loves chasing after money. I came to understand that she was chasing a dream, but I don’t think she’s a person who has a limit in what she does.” He said their relationship continued to deteriorate after he was involved in an accident at work in 2021. Stella quit her job at a supermarket in the same year because she had to take care of Walter. And that’s around the time her addiction started.
“Every time she went to the mall, she’d go and place bets… I told her to stop gambling if she wants to have a good life,” he said. He also told a story about how she gambled with money that was meant for groceries and rent. When approached for comment, Stella told Walter: “How can you look for me when you blocked me?”
She explained that she did gamble, but it was months ago. “And I had not taken all the money. I know nothing about taking all the money,” the 27-year-old said. But according to Walter, Stella took his R6 500 and used it at a betting place. Speaking about what caused their relationship problems, Stella explained that gambling wasn’t the issue. She said Walter blocked her for five months and even refused to support their child.
Stella didn’t acknowledge her alleged gambling addiction because she only gambles when she’s bored. And after Walter asked to get back together with her, she refused. “I don’t love Walter anymore and he needs to accept it. He shouldn’t lie about me just because I no longer love him. He’s just making up stories so that he can appear on TV,” she said on the show. At the end, she chose her child and her independence.
