Where you can watch To Have and To Hold from the first episode
Following the women of Akwaaba Magic’s To Have and To Hold has been fun. Akosua, Enyonam and Kuukua provide a glimpse of female friendship in modern Ghana; how they root for each other, fight and make up. It has been a rollercoaster of laughter, tears and friendship, and we have enjoyed it all. Here are four reasons we can’t stop watching To Have and To Hold.
The characters
The show has many fun characters, but the men are unique. Seriously, what sort of man is Sam? Who does a secret wedding in the city their wife lives? This is cheating 101. And Steve, an empty barrel who exposes his incompetence by being loud during important meetings. These men are wonderfully foolish but make for an excellent viewing experience. We surely won’t discuss Enyonam’s jobless yet proud husband, Nil.
Fashion Statement
Away from annoying men, let’s discuss the gorgeous women and their sartorial styles. Be it Akosua’s corporate fashion, Enyonam’s working-class style or the always exquisite Kuukua – these ladies slay effortlessly. Kuukua deserves special mention. Her wig, dresses and makeup. Everything screams luxury! Even when she’s broke, she maintains her class because drip is forever.
Its friendship
The show also celebrates friendships, both bromance and sismance. Akosua, Kuukua and Enyonam go through their struggles together. When Sam broke Akosua’s heart with his foolish attempt to marry another woman, her girls were there for her.
There is plenty to admire about this friendship, but another friendship that deserves a shout is Nil and Agbo’s. Agbo constantly pushes Nil towards gambling. He means well, but his actions only worsen Nil’s situation.
Life lessons
Yes, there’s drama and comedy, but To Have and To Hold wants us to think about our decisions on romance, parenting, business, and friendship. We see the danger of women putting their lives in a men’s hand through Kuukua and Enyonam. Steve and Akosua’s workplace shows us the problem with corporate misogyny. The list is endless, but there’s so much to learn.
