A Dangerous Son (2018)

You think you know about mental health. You think you know how it’s treated. But the reality is a lot scarier than you realise. And it’s brought to you – the good, the bad and the very, very ugly – in horrifying realism in this documentary film.

Forget what you know, because these parents are going through the absolute most with their children, who’re suffering the most. It’s heartbreaking to see both the children and their parents struggle, because there is simply nothing that can be done to help them. Yes, there are mental healthcare workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and occupational therapists, who are trained professionals. But each patient is different, even if they have the same disorder.

Mark Dolan from commonsensemedia.com admits that “A Dangerous Son may challenge your current perceptions of the victims of mental illness and the medical establishment. It’s not a comfortable viewing experience, but one that’s ultimately worthwhile because of its ability to shake you up and wake you up.”
