“Do you have enough money?” Wife asks husband who wants polygamous marriage in #Mnakwethu

In this recent episode of Mnakwethu, viewers were introduced to Siphiwe Khumalo (43), a married man who plucked up the courage to request permission from his wife to marry another woman.

He and his wife, Thandeka, have been together for more than 10 years.

Siphiwe, with the assistance of Musa Mseleku, shared that one of the main reasons he wants a polygamous marriage is because he sometimes cannot be intimate with his wife because she has an ancestral calling: she cannot be intimate with him when she’s busy with her duties as a sangoma.

So, according to Siphiwe, her abstinence led him into the arms of another woman.

The other woman

The second woman of Siphiwe’s dreams is a lady by the name of Zandile Mkhize (30). The two met at a BP garage while Zandile was on her way to the mall. The two hit it off immediately. Siphiwe especially liked Zandile because she is an outgoing person he can have fun with, while Thandeka, on the other hand, is not a woman of social gatherings.

Zandile admits that she knew Siphiwe was married and understands why he would want a second wife.

“What I know is that MaRadebe isn’t always available to be intimate. If that’s the case, where does that leave Siphiwe? He doesn’t have the calling.”

Siphiwe and Zandile’s reason for wanting to be in a polygamous marriage caused great concern for Musa. He feels that the pair have a total misunderstanding of what a polygamous marriage is about.

“We need to clarify the meaning of polygamy – it is not only about sex. Polygamy is about building a home. Even if you are going to sleep with the person, in the end, the woman still has to have good qualities and take care of the household.”

The reveal and backlash

Siphiwe finally approached Thandeka with the proposal and request to marry Zandile. Let’s just say that the unimpressed Thandeka did not mince her words when it came to her response.

Among the many things that were said, Thandeka asked Siphiwe if he was financially capable of taking care of two wives.

The threats

The questions hit Siphiwe where it hurts, the conversation then escalated to several threats from Thandeka as well. She not only threatened Siphiwe but Zandile is well.

Thandeka first told Siphiwe that she would leave him and let Zandile be the wife of the house.

She then threatened that she would catch Siphiwe. Catch him how? We have absolutely no idea. But the tone of her voice was very unsettling.

She then warned a very nervous-looking Zandile about what she’d got herself into.

“Will you be able to stand all that I deal with in this house? You see, what you are doing to me now, it’s going to come back to you tenfold. Mark my words!”
