Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)

Eddie Redmayne reprises his role as Newt Scamander, the author of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the textbook we first saw in the Harry Potter movie series. As in the first film, the sequel is set decades before Harry was born and focuses on Newt as he fights to stop Grindelwald.

Jude Law returns as a young Dumbledore, and Jonny Depp as Grindelwald, who, as he threatened he would do at the end of the first film, has escaped custody and is recruiting followers at every turn to help him fulfil his lifelong dream of pure-blood wizards reigning over all the world.

Newt, his muggle friend Dan and Tina Goldstein from the Ministry of Magic (played by Katherine Waterston) go on an epic chase for Grindelwald through Paris of the 1920s. The set designs, special effects and costumes are just as magical as you’d expect.

This is one for true JK Rowling fans, and those who like well-made, big-budget adventure movies.

CNN.com says, “Depp gives the movie a villain of a greater magnitude, particularly in a closing sequence where he reveals what motivates him. While Dumbledore isn’t around that much, as played by Law he’s as enigmatic as ever, strengthening the link to Potter lore, especially for the rules-of-Quidditch-conversant who eat up every reference to it.”
