Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger a big hit with critics
Starting just weeks ago, the latest series to come out of the Marvel universe has already become a favourite among TV critics worldwide. We’re expecting a lot of award buzz around Cloak & Dagger: the show, as well as the two lead stars Aubrey Joseph (Tyrone/Cloak) and Olivia Holt (Tandy/Dagger), were recently nominated in the upcoming Teen Choice Awards, and we’re sure this won’t be their only award nod.
The hot new series is available first and only on Showmax, with S2 now available to binge. Watch it now »
Here’s what the critics are saying:
The numbers
IMDb: 7.7/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 89%
Metacritic: 68%
The charts
Entertainment media are wasting no time in adding Cloak & Dagger to their must-watch lists for the year:
Rolling Stone placed it as number 4 on their list of 10 Best TV Shows From 2018.
Deseret News included Cloak & Dagger on its list of “TV shows to watch this summer” (read: winter, for those of us living in the Southern Hemisphere).
TVLine said it was one of the new shows that “excited us”.

USA Today ranked it as the fourth-best Marvel TV series to date.
The reviews
SlashFilm: “Cloak & Dagger had a strong opening, and I can’t wait to see where this slow-burn of a series goes.”
Decider: “Stream It, because the chemistry between Holt and Joseph is apparent in their brief scenes together, so we’re looking forward to seeing them together more going forward.”
Vulture: “You won’t find a more gently realized, naturalistically performed, and moodily moving meta-human saga anywhere else on the dial.”
The Hollywood Reporter: “Solid introductions to the human side of its characters, an often innovative structure, fine use of its New Orleans backdrop and a few moments of real cleverness.”
Business Insider UK: “The story is dark, and twisted and gritty.”
Los Angeles Times: “A refreshingly unpredictable and smart take on the usual caped-crusader fare.”
The Daily Beast: “The actors are compelling and the writing is tight enough to make the show addictive.”
The show
Tandy and Tyrone, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, discover they’ve acquired superpowers that appear to be stronger when the two of them work together.
While the story is about superheroes, what critics love most about the new show is that each of the characters’ pasts, their emotions and connection to one another is explored in depth. The on-screen chemistry between the two leads is also something to admire.
Watch Season 2 of Cloak & Dagger, only on Showmax.
