Siren S3
Okay, let’s get this straight from the beginning: Siren is not The Little Mermaid. There’s no Disney sing-along theme song. And there’s no “cuddly” pet fish named Flounder. The mermaids in this dark fantasy series mean business. They’re downright mean too. And they’ve got teeth that put Jaws to shame. They’re called sirens and, like the legends, they’re beautiful but deadly as they lure lusty young men to their deaths beneath the waters.
But with the doom and gloom of what you’re seeing onscreen comes a really good story that develops properly in Season 2. Eline Powell’s siren character Ryn spent the first season being attracted to a hottie marine biologist while she was ashore in human form. In Season 2, she’s back where she belongs under the waves because her people are being attacked. They’re also facing another threat: due to ocean pollution, mermen and sirens can’t reproduce, so Ryn looks for another way to have a merbaby.
In the third and final season, Ryn’s baby is born as a new threat looms on the horizon.
Nominated as 2018’s Breakout Show at the Teen Choice Awards, Siren has a 95% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics’ consensus says, “Siren turns traditional lore on its tail with a unique, well-paced show that presents dangerous, violent mythical creatures in a surprisingly empathetic and exciting light.”
