Relive all the heartbreak and drama in Date My Family S1
Update: Date My Family is no longer on Showmax. Find your next binge in the full series catalogue here.
South African television hasn’t been the same since the first episode of Date My Family made its debut on Mzansi Magic, which you can now enjoy all over again as season 1 just launched on Showmax.
The hit reality show gives hopeful singles a chance to meet the family before even laying their eyes on their potential suitor. Sounds interesting and fun, right? You’d think relying on your family to say nice things about you to your “date” would be an easy job, but more often than not, we’ve seen people failing at this simple task. Date My Family has made us laugh, cringe and even get angry. We’ve picked three reasons why the show stands out.
1. Risking it all for love
At some point in our lives, most of us want to find someone to settle down with. So, if the traditional route of meeting people doesn’t work, there’s always the option of going on national TV.
On this show, you’ll get introduced to people from different walks of life, young and old, students and working professionals who all have the same wish: to find “the one”. While some of us wouldn’t dare put ourselves out there for love, there are others who don’t mind risking it all – even if it means having dinner with three different families – in order to get their happily ever after.
2. Hilarious moments
Like most reality shows, Date My Family is filled with moments that will leave you in stitches for days. The singletons on the show are always certain about the kind of partners that they want. Sometimes they list things that often leave us thinking, “well, this is a bit too much. No wonder you’re single”. But we guess it’s important to say exactly what you want, even some of your expectations seem a bit out of reach.
The nice thing about this reality show is that as a bachelor/bachelorette you’re guaranteed a date at the end. By the way, this is where it all gets interesting. There’s one episode where after the date, the “couple” fights about Tupperware. Imagine going all the way to a TV show to look for love, finally score a date, get there and fight about things that shouldn’t even matter? How embarrassing!
3. Real connections built
Watching people hitting it off right in front of your eyes is definitely one of the reasons why we love this show. The idea of people building an emotional connection on national television totally gets us excited.
While some dates end on a rather sour note, others leave us wishing we could follow some of the couples in real life just to see if they’ll end up walking down the aisle or not.
Get just as invested in other people’s love lives, and watch Date My Family S1, currently streaming on Showmax.
