Gomora: Melusi is not the man we thought he was

For a long time, Melusi seemed like the perfect husband who’d always do the right thing.

However, things changed after Langa – the son he shared with Thathi – passed away. The former lovers found comfort in each other and although Melusi is a married man, he couldn’t resist going back to the woman he once loved.

Melusi and Thathi’s feelings for each other have always been strong and could no longer be ignored. Watching them was like seeing two lovestruck teenagers who’d do anything to spend as much time together as possible. They kept their affair a secret and enjoyed all the stolen moments.

You’re a murderer

While Melusi was loving towards Thathi, he wasn’t so nice to his wife, Gladys. He lost it when she told him that she wanted to abort their child. “You’re happy to look after other people’s kids, but you want to terminate the one you’re carrying inside you,” he told her after discovering her plan. She told him that it was her body, and she could do whatever she wanted to do.

“You killed my children. You killed not one, but two of my kids. Then you make this about me? Actually, you’re a murderer,” Melusi continued. He told her that she should have been honest about not wanting children from the beginning of their relationship. “But what did you do? You chose to lie to me.”

Well, Melusi is a fine one to talk. After all the creeping he’s been doing behind his wife’s back he has the nerve to condemn her for lying. Talk about double standards. Fortunately for Gladys, secrets always come out. Thanks to Ntokozo, Gladys learned the truth. Her son told her that he had overheard his father speaking to someone on the phone.

Gladys snatches Jackie’s wig

“I didn’t know how to tell you, Ma. I heard dad talking on the phone saying, ‘if Gladys wasn’t pregnant, I would be with you’,” Ntokozo said. The only thing he got wrong was the identity of the mistress. He thought he was cheating with a teacher at his school. Gladys decided to confront the teacher and demand the truth from her.

Isn’t it awkward that the confrontation happened right in front of Thathi? “Why would you pretend to be my friend, then the next thing you’re sleeping with my husband? Jackie, why would you do this to me? We’ve known each other for years,” Gladys shouted.

Melusi comes clean

Of course, Jackie had no idea what Gladys was talking about and said it was a misunderstanding. Melusi then came out to stop the commotion. His wife asked for the truth. “I cheated,” he told Gladys at home. “When Langa died I felt heartbroken. I didn’t know a person could feel pain that much. I needed something that would help me forget the pain. I cheated. I was wrong. And I’m asking you to forgive me.”

Yes, he confessed, but he didn’t tell Gladys that he’d been seeing Thathi. She only found out when she went back to the school to apologise to Jackie for the accusation. “Melusi didn’t make a mistake. He got in the relationship with Thathi fully aware of what he was doing,” she said.

Gladys asks for a divorce

Gladys was shocked by this revelation and went straight to Thathi’s house to confront her. “Why are you having an affair with my husband?… You know, Thathi, you are so heartless. You’re such a heartless, self-serving parasite of a being. Shame on you.”

Gladys was so heartbroken that she started blaming herself for her husband’s actions. She also wondered if they were lacking something. “I’m the problem,” the disappointed wife concluded.

When she got home, she had a very sad and serious conversation with her husband. She asked him a series of questions about the affair that he refused to answer. “Do you love me? Am I woman enough for you?” Gladys then took her ring off and asked for a divorce.

So, it looks like Gladys is tired of playing second best and is finally choosing herself. Will Melusi allow her to move on without him? Watch Gomora on Mzansi Magic (channel 161) and express to DStv online and Showmax
